Fun fact: Godzilla's blue color is actually based on real science. They even name it in this movie. Cherenkov radiation. When particles are so supercharged with energy that they move faster than light through a medium (Nothing can go faster than light in a vacuum. Mediums are fair game.) they produce an creepy blue glow. In fact most nuclear reactors glow with this same brilliant blue light.

I am glad that you acknowledged how the film was intended essentially as a satirical comedy. Since the American version removed a lot of the satire and replaced it with reporting scenes so dry they make the Atacama desert jealous, I think a lot of people have a harder time giving into the goofy nature. In fact, watching the Japanese version where before Godzilla and Kong even meet they are fighting for media coverage with people even betting on them despite the damage, comparing that to the sheer amount of similar things in crossover battles today is freaking hilarious. That also goes for comparing it to the rest of the Godzilla series. Only 3 movies in and the big Dinosaur was already parodying himself, which only shows that there was a method to their madness. It's almost like Toho was just like "Yeah, our nuclear allegory Dinosaur is now having a pro wrestling match with a giant alcoholic Monkey with a shock fetish and it's gonna end up being the highest grossing Godzilla movie ever what do you expect?". Does make it kinda ironic you chose to watch the English dub cuz it was funnier when in this case I would say it's the opposite for this movie.

This was the first ever Godzilla film I saw as a child. I'd heard of Godzilla, I was big into Jurassic Park and movie monsters so as a 4-5 year old I was all into it, but it wasn't easy to find any of the films or generally anything Godzilla-related in the UK, all I had for a long time was a vinyl GMK Godzilla figure that I got on a trip to America. I got this film for Christmas a few years later and I'll never forget the scene when he breaks out of the ice, it was like a right of passage getting to finally see him wreak havoc on film. A few years later the Guardian newspaper included a free copy of the original 1954 film which I still have, and I remember it gave me nightmares with how dark it was. Whenever I've gone on trips to America I've always tried to get as many Godzilla films as I can find, even if I could only watch them on a computer due to the disk regions being different in the UK. So what I guess I'm saying is I relate a lot to you as a UK Godzilla fan, although I couldn't get enough of this film as a kid.

Funnily enough, not only was Kong more popular than Godzilla during this time, but so were Mothra and Rodan. The only reason why Toho went ahead with continuing with Godzilla sequels instead of more films featuring Kong, Mothra, or Rodan in the lead roles is simply because Godzilla was the cheapest one to bring to life as he didn't require rights negotiations with Universal nor did he require extensive wire work to bring him to life or to allow for flying sequences.

yes. ~ there is nothing that even comes close to resembling human words to express my absolute love and reverence for “Shin-Godzilla”. I saw it in the cinema with my bff and it blew my mind. and honestly the moment they first show Godzilla waddling through the city , the music, the cinematography, the buildup and payoff, the fact that he looks plain goofy from afar yet totally gross and horrifying, it actually disturbed me straight down into my entire being. I can safely say that along with just the concept alone, and especially with whom it was created by, the ending, his various forms, his scream/cry/howl; every. thing. I adore it , infinitely. *I’m so glad I found your commentary on the world’s most beloved very large and very angry reptile* ;3

The pronunciation of Hokkaido by dub actors has always drove me nuts. The Japanese newscaster in the dub says it right... it almost seems like he's mad no one else is.

Honestly I'd enjoy any review of something that you have passion for. Does help if it has animation or puppetry but this still doesnt mean you must limit yourself! And it doesnt need be dark and depressing at least exclusively either. Its enjoyable as a theme but that hardly disqualifies you as a channel if you random deviate from the usual. EDIT: also wanted to add? this was among your funniest reviews yet so far

For the ending I think once both monsters fell into the water Kong went "F- this I"m done' and moved to the surface to swim home. Meanwhile Godzilla is flipping him off underwater saying 'You better run. This is my territory!"

17:07 Fun fact during this scene the actor who was playing godzilla hit his head in one of the rocks knocking him out but don't worry he end up waking up shortly afterwards Ps maybe the directors took this for a reason why godzilla loses

King Kong being gaining power from Electricity actually makes perfect sense for it is clear that he is actually a giant Zeraora, while Godzilla is a water type thus it makes perfect sense that he would be weak to electric Pokémon.

@@tyrannozillasauronsproduct5072 Thus my head cannon of them being Pokémon works for me, although in all seriousness the reason why King Kong has such a weird strength in this movie is because the movie was originally supposed to be about Frankenstein and in those movies he was created with lightning so him gaining power from electricity would’ve made sense, but sometime down the line the movie became about Godzilla v King Kong so we have a bizarre strength of King Kong so that he can feasibly fight Godzilla.

I'm not surprised that you couldn't find high quality footage of the English version of King Kong vs. Godzilla. Toho is being run by a bunch of egotistical assholes nowadays who feel that only the original versions of their films should be viewed. As such, it's been getting harder and harder to find the iconic English dubbed versions of all those old Godzilla movies that we all grew up with. VHS and DVD copies of the dubbed versions are slowly becoming sought after collectors items. It's fucking stupid that the versions of these films that we've known since childhood are being fazed out. Watching something that's subbed, trying to watch AND read something at the same time. It's so dumb.

Me not paying attention to the screen but hearing the use of Octopi: “9:30 Octopus is a Greek word and you only add the I on the end of its Latin. Octopuses is the correct form of plural.” Me after finding out he corrected himself: “Excuse me while I Curb my grammar Nazi”
@Psyclonus7 Жыл бұрын
17:29 Kong never won. Toho's marketing on it has always been "Who do YOU think will win?" and stating that it was a draw. Even in the original script which has been reprinted multiple time, no winner was ever declared. If you're going by who rose out of the water as a victor, then King Ghidorah won at the end of Invasion of Astro Monster because Rodan and Godzilla never come out of the water.
