My mom used to tell me, if I'm anxious that I'm going to stutter, I will. Relax and take my time, it's the best advice I've ever gotten. I say the same thing about driving a car, if you feel like you're driving badly you will lol it's all anxiety, it's hard to break but it takes time. Nothing is wrong it just takes practice to relax yourself

It’s so true. Unless you have a stutter you don’t really know the frustration of not being able to finish your sentence. I watched this about 3 months ago (I had a very bad stutter) and after trying this I stutter only occasionally instead of during each sentence. I’m so glad I came across this video because it has really changed my life

@@BohemPlus same. It's plagued me my whole life. Speaking on the phone is the most difficult -- I usually get hung up on before I can eek out, "I sssssssssssspeak with a stttttttttutter, please bbbbbbbbbbeeeee patient." Humans are so cruel. The only time my speech is 100% fluent without any prolongations or blocks is when I'm singing, so this is truly my preferred way of communication.

My brother has stutters. When he gets nervous or has to say a big sentence it gets so bad
@JG-on2wx
@JG-on2wx 5 жыл бұрын
I have a very mild stutter when I'm nervous, especially when I have to present something in front of other people. I always think about what I want to say next and how I'm going to say it, while I haven't even finished the first sentence. I stumble across words, mix them up, miss them, repeat them, and so on. I think it can't really be considered stuttering, because I experience it not that often, but I'm not sure, really. There's also a reason to why this happens to me, I guess: when I was smaller, I always used to talk a lot, for example when I wanted to tell about something really exciting. But some people that were close to me at that time and who I looked up to interrupted me every time to tell me how boring it was to listen to me, because it took me so long to tell something. But since I didn't want to leave out important aspects, I began to talk faster, so that they wouldn't have to wait too long. :/

She stuttered as she began telling her story of how stuttering is affecting her dating life, she stopped stuttering when she was giving praise to Steve, then started stuttering again when she closed her opening question by asking how she can personally get over this. When she internalizes she stutters. She was so sure of Steve but didn't have the same confidence in herself. I hope she builds the confidence she deserves to see how beautiful and significant she is.

"Slow down, breathe, and talk slowly makes things worse" A lot of people tend to tell people this but a person that stutters hears this and trys to apply what they heard and definitely stutters more. It has to be a better way to speak to people that have a stutter without causing them to think more and then stutter some more. To everyone that has a stutter I just was to tell you that I love you and I'm here for you the best way that I can be. I truly don't see anything wrong with anyone that stutters and I just want to tell everyone with a stutter that you are great and special because God made you.. If everyone makes you feel bad or can't accept you for stuttering they don't know or love God. ❤️

Feeling insecure about something is the start of individuals believing that something is wrong with them. First thing is to understand that we all may find things wrong with our selfs but we need to know that nothing is wrong with us and we are all great people. Psychologically we have to believe that the things we won't to cure ourselves from is possible but we just have to believe and try to get better at it day by day.

Everything Steve said, especially about other people look at the stutterer is totally true. What's worse is when they make a joke about it, I've been in more fights about that than anything else. People who don't stutter, have no idea what people who do stutter go through on a daily basis. When someone like Steve Harvey comes around, and shows you what he or she used to quit stuttering. @@thelasttime684 honey i was never disrespectful. I was just uneducated. Sometimes people think they choose the right words when in fact they did not. I always try to be respectful when interacting with different folks. I could never be mean to someone becUse of something as small as a speech impediment but now i know that the stutter is not there because they are nervous so me telling them "its ok. Calm down" is not as kind and patient as i thought it was. Its ignorant. I hope tomorrow when you wake up you know not to just jump down people's throats with such a negative output when they say they want to do better. Stuttering is not something that you can “cure” Steve. I have stuttered all of my life. A stuttering person has to learn the ways to get around it. I CAN NOT say my first name if I was not already involved in conversation when I say it. Steve IS right in that the “speech therapists” I had to go to while in school DID NOT stutter! The safeguards I learned about stuttering were taught to me by a compassionate Air Force Basic Training Instructor. He stuttered, and EVERY other Training Instructor (TI) has his back!

My son is stuttering and he’s about to turn 4 next month. It’s so hard when he’s trying to make small talk and people walk away. They don’t necessarily realize he’s stuck on a word. I’m SO glad to have seen this. His dad used to have speech therapy for a stutter when he was in elementary and I have major anxiety. I’m not proud to say that I’m the person who is a high sprung multitasker and will often finish or interrupt people when there’s the slightest pause. 🤦🏾‍♀️🥴I’m working on it and practicing meditation and yoga. I just hope not to be to much of a hindrance to my little one’s speech as he grows 😭😭😭

This brought back strong emotions for me. I have always had a speech impediment and its brought on by stress. While most times it's manageable, there are times when it's extremely unbearable and I can barely talk. It's not a stutter, it's a nervous vocal tick and it used to be so bad I could barely talk, especially if I'm talking on the phone. People make fun of you and they don't understand just how paralyzing it can be. It just makes me angry when I see someone clapping or making jokes about people with speech impediments because they have never lived with such a disability like this. It gets really bad. To this day, I still struggle with this vocal tick and even my therapist has noticed it.

Steve is telling the ABSOLUTE TRUTH, I use to stutter very bad growing up . However for me breathing exercises helped me, I would take a deep breath let it out and answer. Doing this actually helped me relax, and by high school know one could even tell. Even now if I stammer, I take a quick breath and pause and then speak. Steve this really hit home ! GOD BLESS YOU FOR HELPING HER

One of the things I did was confronted my anxiety by placing myself in an intensive group setting (theater company) where I could make friends and come to the realization that it was ok to trust. Yes, there were those who I did not get along with, but overall it was a great experience. I noticed early on that I could speak without stuttering or stammering when talking with those I trusted, yet I had difficulty talking with strangers. Once I understood that it did not matter whether someone liked me or not, I was able to relax and it all finally went away. The other thing I did was to read passages in books outloud. This trained my vocal and breath muscles. It required some exageration of facial and vocal muscles, but it helped a lot. Muscle memory definitely played into my cure, but most was overcoming my anxiety. I believe that my cure could have been accelerated had I entered some kind of psychological counseling at an early age. Speech therapy was of little value and help with my situation. I know the pain stutterers experience...and so it is painful for me to watch others who are afflicted with this disorder. But...I believe that in most cases it can be overcome.

@@glennsohm6643 I stuttered as a child, so much to where I was barely intelligible. Because of this I was psychologically and emotionally abused by one of my teachers who would openly mock my stuttering in front of my peers which, in turn, led to me being bullied and ostracized by my classmates. This teacher, horribly enough, also happened to be my speech therapist and ran an after school program at her house for parents who worked late hours. It's like I couldn't get away from her torment and I was too terrified of her to tell my parents. Fortunately for me, I was able to fully overcome stuttering by age 8 or so, and it was through sheer willpower and determination...definitely not because of any "help" on her part. So, I get what you mean by it being hard to watch/listen to others who stutter. In fact, as soon as the girl in the video started stuttering, I had to immediately pause it because it's almost painful to listen to...it just brings back so many awful feelings and memories. Only a former stutterer will know just how debilitating it can feel. I truly hope she's able to overcome it.

It's not beautiful or not beautiful. It's just science. It's just their. It's a byproduct of the material and aroms and electricity. You cant describe it as calm and beautiful because it's not visible and no they dont have colors and no they dont have feelings to it. You cant taste it, smell it, see it or feel it as calm or wild. You can feel it in the sense of their being an airy mass though. Sorry I just coudlnt keep quiet because that comment is not authentic.

Natalie Wilson everything you learn is neurological, everything you think and do and smell and move, every single function and feeling is neurological. So saying its neurological doesnt really day much. Having thr ability to see and me typing right this second every single movements and press and accuracy and everything is neurological. When your sleeping its neurological. When you wet the bed or pee or poop its neurological. When your afraid or happy or excited or horny. Its neurological l. When you heal after a workout ita neurological, anxiety is neurological. Anyone that dates stuttering is neurological is correct. But it doesn't mean they are neurologically broken. It doesnt mean they have brain damage or nervous system damage at all. Unless you have physical evidence from a doctor that ran scans on your brain that says u have brain damage it's not because of that. But every function will always be neurological. Lol

I was happier being silent since i accepted something is wrong with me! But it was all in my head! I realized i was nervous and scared when i was a kid, mainly affected by being bullied in school and also heavily criticized by my parents and lecturers regarding how i performed in schoool. Leaving school, meeting new people and realizing that theres more in life gained confiddnce in me and just like that - the stutter was gone.

Ty Taylor there is nothing wrong with you . I had hearing loss all of my life . I had been to special education since elementary school and middle school . I went to regular high school and college . My mother said school district didn’t help me that much until I got to high school . My high school , deaf and hard of hearing program helped me so much and dedicated teachers helped me through 4 years . I said to myself I felt a normal person and very smart person . My son is autism and so lucky he can talk . He goes regular classes and few special education classes. I was thankful for that.

Ty, many people think stuttering is a mental issue. Its mental but not from a clinical standpoint. The problem with speech therapy is that they focus speech dysfluency and not the cure. In other words you have to begin at the root and not the fruit.
