Check out the old Steve Gadd video :-) Great feel and sound...and he is not even playing on a drum but on a tape-box.

I love how long the cymbals sizzle. Very fitting.
@ludabarracuda13 жыл бұрын
@ZODIAKOmusic I believe it's a cymbal with rivets (it isn't enlisted in his equipment), that's why it sizzles that much

I don't play drums but I must say just watching this video makes me want to buy the dvd. Just to get a broader understanding of brush technique and integration into the music. Very interesting stuff.

@oBIGxREDo Yes, some jazz drummers use sonor (its more of a European Thing), but the most popular brands for jazz are Yamaha, Gretsch, and DW. Steve Smith Usually uses Zildjian K Constantinople and K Customs, so I am pretty sure it is from one of those series....

@oBIGxREDo "My main ride cymbal is a 22" K Zildjian Custom Medium, which sounds great for most of my jazz or jazz/rock gigs. I also use the new 21" K Custom Med Special Dry, which I think is one of the best cymbals Zildjian has ever made. When I need more of a rock sound, I use a 20" A Platinum Ping ride." -Steve Smith

@rith5 Each manufacturer makes so many different specific kits with different woods, and different sounds almost every brand out there has something for every style.

@bandit48032 Drums brands often have specific sounds (eg DW), n most of them have a genre they will fit into better than other brands, I don't believe drums can be compared conclusively

@bandit48032 All together drum technology has improved and all the various brands have the same mastery of craftmenship; although the various series that all these companies have will let you know which company purposes their drums better. Sonor has very focused lines from what I know, so that is their benefit and, if any, their downfall. I don't think Sonor has the universal playability of some of the other brands, but if I could ever own a Sonor that fits what i want and need I will take it.

@bandit48032 Definately, but some companies definately make a better drum for certain genres also

@rith5 Of course this is all personal preference but honestly no matter what genera of music you're playing sonor has a wood or tom size that will suite whatever it is. I have seen and played on a lot of different kits but sadly I've yet to see anything that can compete with the quality of sonor's products. Plus, when you have someone like Steve Smith who is arguably the greatest player alive right now playing sonor how can ya argue lol

Jazz players play on all different brands of kits. It makes no difference, all of the big time players are paid to play with a certain brand. However, I believe that Sonor does make one of the finest, if not "the" finest drums on the market.

SS is great, but without looking, this doesn't sound like a ballad as mentioned. More like a drum and bass thing qua brush playing. Too stressed.
