If it weren't because over the years I see him grow older I would think he's not human. This man plays in another league, he's on a higher level.
@TheMetatron3332 жыл бұрын
I love how a lot of how he plays is understated. Like if you knew nothing about music you might not even notice how badass his is.

Best all around drummer on the planet! How can someone be such an accomplished jazz and fusion player, and also have a few go arounds in one of the biggest rock bands in the world.
@adamblevins14354 жыл бұрын
Easily one of the most versatile drummers alive. This is absolutely incredible. I love to juxtapose his work with Vital Information against live recordings of Journey back in the 1980's. The stylistic range he has is just amazing.

I saw him many times in the 70s and 80s with Jean Luc Ponty's band.... He was scary AF then. What is that ? A million years ago? Man, he swings on this track! This is just smoke!
@andrewbintang45913 жыл бұрын
And don't forget that Steve Smith also played Metal music! Just check out Ritchie Kotzen's 1989 self titled debut album for instance with great grooves on tracks such as Strut It or ferocious double kickdrum playing on Unsafe At Any Speed.

Steve IS always stylish.. Am I right? Does it really matter for native English speakers to use the verb BE in such sentences ?
@benhancock62536 ай бұрын
@@dmitrymerkushov3949 by dropping "to be", it definitely sounds like a mistake if said by a non-native speaker. But as with all native speakers of all languages, we sort of just allow these sort of errors to happen because we're already affirmed by their accent and cadence etc. Also, KZbin comments are so casual that even the most basic grammartical structure isn't overly important.

Awesome video!! Ran in to him at the pay phones, back when we had them, at Boston Logan International Airport,maybe in 1992, or so . He was heading off to Europe for a tour.when I realized he was on the pay phone next to me I screamed and said “Holy shit. You’re Steve Smith!!” and kinda’ scared him. But, he was so nice and kind and we talked shop from Berklee College of Music student to another and I’ll never forget it!! What a great day!!🥁🎶🥁

This was great! This was pretty ironic was that last year sometime in May Vital Information was in my hometown also in that same month a Journey tribute band called Separate Ways was also in town. I was unaware of Vital Information being in town till a week or so later...boy that would have been amazing to have seen Vital Information along with Separate Ways. Both of those shows would have been amazing! I hope and pray that Vital Information comes back.

I never saw Mr. Smith during his tenure with Journey but saw him a couple times with his Jazz outfit and was blown away. He didnt talk much but let his drums talk. Very fluent, versatile and tasteful!! He has that something very special I felt when I saw Steve Gadd and Billy Cobham. I wonder how he was when he played rock with Journey?

I got to see Steve Smith and Vital Information perform a few years ago. I was front row, about 10 feet from Steve's kit. As a drummer, of course I was keyed in on everything Steve Smith was doing, but I left the concert amazed at how good the other musicians in his band are. Vinnie is an absolute SMOKING guitar player and he actually drew my attention away from Steve throughout the night.
