Steve Stoliar, author of "Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho's House" (soon to be a major motion picture), discusses working for Groucho - as well as his dealings with the mercurial and controversial Erin Fleming - on this fascinating and frankly hysterical edition of Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast from November of 2015. In addition to telling stories about his years in the Marx household, Steve and Gilbert trade off on duelling Old Groucho impressions - as well as duelling John McGiver impressions! - and Steve entertains with further vocal impressions of such diverse personalities as Burgess Meredith, John Carradine, Zeppo Marx, George Burns, S.J. Perelman [sic] and Bob Hope, to name a few. A funny and fascinating look at Hollywood behind the scenes! (Caution: Not for the easily offended!!)
Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast can be found at sideshownetwork...
"Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho's House" can be ordered in the Kindle and Audiobook (with Steve doing all the voices) formats on Amazon.com, while signed/inscribed copies of his book are available at stevestoliar.com

Listened to this again today. Absolute gold top to bottom (no coffee table jokes, please). My sorrow is that now Gilbert has left us before the completion of the filming of Raised Eyebrows. His insane humour will forever live on. My best wishes to Steve!

I've mentioned this before, but Stoliar beats Gilbert on his Groucho imitation. I find Stoliar hilarious as well and such a great impressionist. Still love the fact that Groucho can do John McGiver.

One of my fondest memories is standing in line outside McGaw Hall on the Northwestern campus to see Groucho Marx in person. He'd been invited by Prof. Bergen Evans, who taught at the school and had also done local television. I sat on a dirt floor just 10 feet from him. It smashed all expectations. It was the first "An Evening With Groucho" starting a trend for other celebrities.

Steve's story is astonishing -- a Groucho fan, like millions including me, who sends a simple fan-letter and ends up, incredibly, basically "in charge" of Groucho's whole life. When his book came out, I wouldn't have believed there was anything else to say about Groucho's story, but....holy crap. Could be a good movie, but anyway it is an amazing story.

Claude Rains' upper crust accent was not a "put-on" so much as a necessity for anyone who wanted to be an actor. Many other British actors were from the working class and had to change their accents.

You are exactly right...Gilbert is so fortunate to have his cohost Frank there with him...Frank is the one who really maked the podcast go...he is so well researched and knows how to lead the guests through anecdote after anecdote, while Gilbert just cackles his insane laugh...the interviews would be twice as good without gilbert there, and we would learn so much more from the guests,,,,

You would think Godfried would have quickly realized that Stoliar's impersonation of Groucho was so far superior than his own, that he would not have used it the rest of the podcast after his first try....and the reference to the so called Danny Thomas gross fetish was maybe funny once, but not 6 more times...it got stupid and over the top...and he keeps interrupting the guests, always trying to get his own shtick in,..if it wasn't for his cohort Frank, skillfully managing the interviews, the podcasts would be worthless...and it is a real shame, because some of the guests they have are very interesting...
