What I found interesting about this video, is Steve (today) appears to have even less wrist hinge. Virtually none. I followed him for two days at this year’s Ally Challenge (which he won)… studied him intensely on the range… and couldn’t detect a hinge even during play. His wrists remained the same through the swing as at address. No downcock…nothing. The final round, I saw marked differences in swings between him and Harrington. In Padraig’s preshot routine, he would swing EXTREMELY hard trying to generate speed. LOTS of “WHOOSH”, and LOTS of wrist hinge as well. Steve was the opposite… one brief backswing with NO wrist hinge using his eyes to look for extension, and then he stepped right in to his shot. At times he out drove Harrington… which was sort of mind boggling because Harrington swung so hard! Padraig often did out drive him, but it didn’t really matter. Steve had remarkable distance, and beautiful trajectory. It was marvelous to watch.

@@johneebee242 Gentlemen, Look again. Where he needs wrist hinge. On the dwonswing. He allows the wrists to remain flexible and Swings his Arms on Downswing creating the natural hinge.

A perfect example of the short game rules in scoring! If I had to choose....and I did since I am 5'6" tall.....I work on 100 yards and in and build my game around that strength. I will never hit it 300, but I can hit wedges close from anywhere on the planet. Cool vid! G>

Looking at Steve swing and not mentioning his Left forearm at address a sin! Big key to his success

A great swing to copy for longevity in the game. When we get to 50 or 60, we amateurs won't have to change our swing - it will already be grooved. And no back problems! In the meantime, while I could get another 10-15 yds off the tee, the increased dispersion (aka scenic route) is not worth it. Thanks Steve :)

Maybe a good time to revisit review, given his success and driving stats on Senior tour. Probably more in the range of average golf guys and senior men. Any real changes in 2023/24

Pretend you are pouring a drink away from yourself into the kitchen sink, where your thumb points to the back of the sink. Note your wrist position while you're pouring. Try setting up to the ball with that wrist position and make a complete swing with that same wrist position from beginning to end. Resist the urge to hinge and unhinge your wrists. If you have never done this before, it may be the strangest swing feeling you have ever felt. It feels wrong. It feels like a 3/4 swing with unnecessary wrist restriction. And if you've been a golfer for any length of time, you might feel like you are a beginner again and need to get off the internet, and stop reading crap like this. But if still intrigued, try hitting a bucket of balls at the range this way. I guess that first bucket hooked me. I was surprised by how many shots felt flush and how straight the trajectory was. I was almost laughing to myself while swinging, like I had discovered some secret sauce in the golf swing, yet I didn't discover it. It has been there all along, I just never knew you could swing a club this way. After more practice and even using it with pitches around the green, I finally tried it on the course, intentionally swinging this way the entire round rather than my conventional 2 plane swing. I only played 9 holes that day, saw 2 come within 10 feet of the pin, and saw my 220 yard 3 wood nearly hit the pin on another hole before resting on the back fringe of the green. My swing thought has been massively simplified. In the video, Stricker's address shows his arms and the clubshaft forming a letter 'y.' My swing thought is to form that same 'y' then just 'swing the y.' That's it. No more worrying about where my club is on the backswing or my elbows or wrist hinging, etc. No. Just make a 'y' at address and swing the 'y.' My youtube golf adventure began with investigating the extremes of the single plane swing, aka the master Moe Norman, so as to learn how to play without hurting my back. I'm old. Moe's swing is pretty unorthodox and difficult for me to transition to from my conventional swing. Kirk Junge, a Moe disciple, has some good videos which make that single plane swing easier to do, but until I found Steve Stricker, I really didn't know what this ulnar deviation wrist thing was like. Try it sometime. Thanks to Steve Stricker for showing us mortals that great swings don't need to be complicated!

You are so correct. Once I formed my "y" from start to finish with restricting my wrist my scores dropped considerably. Went out twice and shot 77 and 78. This was without practicing too. Usually I'm a mid 80s hitter with an occasional high 70 in there but this new feeling I have is so easy and non-stressful. I flush almost every shot. Before trying this swing I had the shanks here and there and just messes with your head the entire round. This simplified approach is a game changer. All amateurs should be emulating the Stricker swing immediately. I have so much more fun now. With a little more practice I believe I'll be in the low digit handicap soon.

@@openstenosisFace the sink and pour into it. He does this even more with his putter. Interestingly, his putting stroke is the same as his iron stroke, one piece. Only difference is that he forms a capital “Y” with his arms and the putter shaft and swings the Y.

This is an ordinary guy, not a super athlete, who maximises his swing whilst keeping it simple yet still can drive it over 280. Amatuers should be copying him not Dustin or Rory

Yep. His no hinge feel completely changed my game. The consistency is immediate. For me, I like to feel like my thumbs point down throughout the backswing. Then it’s just rotate back and rotate through.

Ordinary? I don't think so. No, he doesn't lift weights and wear leotards/pants on the golf course. But if you stood next to him, he is as solid an 'athlete' as there is with spectacular hand eye coordination. Add this swing to one of the best putting strokes alive and you have extraordinary in spades.
