I have loved this movie for decades. Sure; Vai never makes mistakes, but we rarely get paid big pucks to pretend that we do on big-screen Hollywood movies! Grin. It's also fun to watch the first Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure just to know that Steve plays all the stellar stuff in that movie as well. Zappa called him "...my little Italian virtuoso....". Abso-freakin'-lutely!

dude, U REALLY know your music. ex husband was a musician, and got me totally hooked on Vai...SO grateful! he's a total gar guitar God...LOVE IT! the fact he played w/ Zappa, Whitesnake, David Lee Roth...WOW! Anyway, ex is how i actually learned of Mr Vai and seriously MAD SKILLS! His style is completely unique to him...totally unmistakably Vai! Passion & Warfare (the album as well as the self titled song) IS a masterpiece! So glad to find someone (U) who knows of what they're speaking! peace :)

Best guitar performance on a movie ever seen.This duel is absolutely amazing and the Nicolo Paganini transcription for electric guitar simply perfect.Even Macchio didn´t play his guitar parts (there are a sinchronicity problem with audio and images)he looks well.I think he can play a little.And Vai...great.

Monstro!

I saw this after Eat 'Em and Smile came out, I was only 10 years old hearing Vai & Sheehan for the first time ( my jaw was on the floor then ) I was already playing guitar for about a year when this movie came out in 1986, but there was just something about Vai at the time.

He had a couple of the best teachers in music history coaching him. Little Ralph did NOT do a bad job. We all understand that he did not actually play anything. He was an ok actor - and this one of my all time favourite movies. Jeez - Steve Vai is INSANE!
@davemitchell455111 жыл бұрын
No, I'm with you there Ozzmaster, A really great movie with a really great storyline and really great soundtrack. If you divorce yourself from the fact the Ralph Macchio can't play authentic air-guitar to save his life, there's no reason why any music fan shouldn't enjoy it.

@Lightning.. or D1vid.. the guitar may or may not have been used in the actual recording but the guitar was used extensively by Vai in the early to mid-eighties. The actual guitar now (appropriately) resides in Mississippi in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

@D1vid3By013 жыл бұрын
@Riffmeister12 Well the red guitar used on the stage is just a prop. Steve actually used a Charvel "Green Meanie" guitar if i'm not mistaken. The amp is real though; It's a Carvin x100b ( i have one myself) you can look it up here. It sound fantastic and they go for under $400 bucks!

Majority of the blues the kid played through out the film was Ry Cooder. The first part of the duel is basically Vai and Cooder jamming, but yes Eugene trick bag, the name of the piece that was mash of classical exercises and a excerpt of Paganini's 5th caprice was done by Vai. William Kanegiser, if I can remember correctly did all the classical guitar pieces in the film. Vai hardly did any of the music for this film, in fact I think he was a last minute call to play as Jack Butler.
