Tony Charles wrestled here in the US for several years. I saw him in an excellent match against Billy Robinson in Memphis.

Tony Charles wrestled in my area , Louisiana , for years . He was the smalkest guy on the roster and was low on the card . He was apparently a trainer , usually on 2nd or 3rd and losing to some up and coming heavyweight . I always loved his defensive wrestling and his odd ( to us ) counter holds . I heard that he once backed down big man promoter Bill Watts who is quite the sizeable fellow 6'3" 305 lbs .

Tony Charles was a legit shooter. Anyone who tried to take liberties with him would find themselves tied up in a knot in a hurry.

@@soltari2007 Bill Watts always tried to motivate through fear . He had a coaches mentality . He wrestled All Qmerican at Oklahoma U . So Bill was a legit shooter and a 500 lbs bencher too . Most guys figured a fight with Bill Watts was not worth it even if they thought their chances were decent . Bill was a badass and usually right in whatecer he said , However , Bill did not back down a few and Tony Charles warned Bill Never to try him and Bill listened the other one I remember was Vader . Vader was a powerhouse and even bbigger rhan Bill . Vader said Bill stopped talking tough around him when Bill saw what sort of weight he used in his workouts .( 400 lbs jump presses )

@@pooddescrewch8718 Tony wrestled as an amateur in the 1957 British Empire games ,he had a standard of fitness and stamina ,few men have achieved, he could put anybody in their place, and was highly respected in the UK. A man with film star looks ,and a terrific personality, it was a privilege to have known him, may he rest in peace.
