Nobody would've ever guessed that I'm typically anxious and even a bit awkward. Drugs and alcohol can really change your outward persona. They can help you not give a fuck which gets misinterpreted as confidence. Put me in a party situation stone cold sober and I'd develop a shell-shocked 1000-yard stare pretty fast lol. I think Steve uses alcohol to self medicate. I have as well. He's clearly nervous on this podcast, even while drinking a bit.
