Steve (who adores Chaka Kahn) clarifies that this tune is much more profound than just a rock song. It's a call to seek an elevated sense of understanding and compassion towards ourselves and others around us - thus referring to this would-be state as 'higher love.' Who better than the amazing Chaka Kahn to sing with on this spiritual song. Great reaction, guys.

Steve Winwood is a musical genius. One of my favorite, puts on an amazing show. Fact: album Arc of a Diver (while you see a chance) he wrote every song, played every instrument, recorded and engineered himself at his recording studio at home. His encyclopedia of work with Spencer Davis, Traffic, Blind Faith and solo speaks for itself.

Great reaction, guys. It’s hard not to smile while listening to this one. This album was a beast in 1986. Chaka, James Ingram, James Taylor, Niles Rodgers, Joe Walsh, Steve Ferrone, and more. It was sort of Winwood’s comeback album and people lined up to be a part of it.

Hey fellas from ol Spanish Ned. Yeah, this is a banger and Stevie, Nile and Chaka are fantastic. Secret weapons include the great Eddie Martinez on guitar and John Robinson on some mighty drums. John was in Rufus, played for Michael Jackson and on thousands of other hits. Synth bass by Phillipe Saisse who is also a major player.

As a little kid I remember hearing this song and liking it. After hearing Dear Mr. Fantasy on an ESPN ad I got really into the band Traffic. At that time the 80's were just starting to be played on the oldies radio stations. When I heard "Higher Love by Steve Winwood" I couldn't believe it. It goes to show you good artists evolve. He always kept the blues/soul going though.

Most definitely Chaka! Love this song and video! If you haven’t already, check out Steve Winwood’s Roll With It (original video) and Back in the high Life - awesome songs! Winwood was involved with the making of records for so many other musicians and singers besides himself. Another favorite of mine is the soulfully sad My Love’s Leavin’ (off of the Back in the High Life album, 1986). The version of this that I actually heard first was a cover by the jazz group Fourplay, featuring Michael McDonald on lead vocals. (2006). I remember my mother was very sick at the time and I would sit in the kitchen with headphones on (when I could) and I’d get lost in the song. When I found out it was a Steve Winwood song, I went back and listened to the original version. I fell in love with both versions. The cover is very true to the original. Winwood’s has more synth in it - Michael McDonald’s is jazzier (especially towards the end) but both versions are fire 🔥

Steve Winwood has a long history in the music industry. He started with The Spencer Davis Group in the late 60s, Traffic in the 70s, one album with Blind Faith which included Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker, and a successful solo career. In his home studio he recorded ‘Arc of a Diver.’ An album on which he played every instrument.

One of the most talented musicians in decades. And a nice man, too. Coworker's sister was (is?) married to him, but that was 1987 in Memphis. He lived in Nashvegas at the time. Woukd actually play piano/organ at church on occasion. ( should have gotten with Rev Al Green!) Al Green would be an awesome listen, men!

England's child prodigy--you played him earlier singing "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" at 15 years old (you wondered if it was dubbed!). He plays every instrument, is a top 5 singer of all-time. You might want to listen to his very (very) eclectic work with his band Traffic and also with Blind Faith (with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker from Cream in a short-lived supergroup). Here he is fairly recently alone with an acoustic guitar singing his Blind Faith era song, "Can't Find My Way Home": kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6C2n2WPYsdpras Enjoy!
