Thanks for posting such historical MX footage. I recall watching Superbikers, trying to be like one, never succeeding. This race was insane. The power of the works Honda's was insane, too. Too bad Carlsbad was taken over by development. The 1980-1985 era of MX/SX is epic. BTW, lets hear it for retro gear. Old school gear looks 10 times cooler than today's gear. Present-day gear is too busy -- one logo gets lost in the next like a gaudy tattoo. Also make Yamaha's yellow again.

I remember the kid from Pharr Texas coming to Rabbit Run MX for the Trans Am in Plano Tx and won the 250 support class. He ran away from the pack by the 3rd lap, lost his seat over one of the jumps and still won the race by a mile.We were proud Texans that day. After that he was our hero!

Man, Steve Wise was flat-tracking that Honda, with his feet up, on asphalt, going about 60 m.p.h. in the turns. Scares me just to watch him do it. Back in the days when the only "Mono-shock" was a Yamaha, and Husqvarnas were made in Sweden, just like they oughta be.

I think by 1980 we had Pro-Link on the Hondas and Unitrack on the Kawis, not sure about the Full Floater on the Suzis.

I remeber Steve upsetting the flatrack guys by winning the houston astrodome event, and becoming a pro roadracer shortly after. Anyone with that houston footage? Steve?

Jimmie also built Steve a Cr125 (production model ) that Steve won a national on against Marty Smiths $25000 Works bike. Jimmie was a very good wrench.
