Steve is talking about culture and leadership. Emotion does come and go, but the “standard” is supposed to be the standard. Kyle is not holding himself or his coaching to the “standard” they built. He doesn’t seem to believe in himself and all his ideology is crumbling before him. You build football teams from the trenches out….he hasn’t done that and when your “scheme deficiency erasers” are hurt or gone…..it all crumbles Turn the keys over to Purdy to see who he really is and let go over the ego. Put an emphasis on special teams and defensive players who can make plays, not just in name. Why is cowing not getting touches on screens or quick plays to use his speed? We are either gonna see Kyle step it up, or the team won’t win another game this year

@@designatedsmoker5113 That's a narrative you bought from headlines. Obviously you've never played a down football in your life or watched film. Not Kyle's fault people arent where they should be. Schematically, SO many times he calls the right play but people don't do their jobs. For example, that guy we paid 30 million a year to catch a ball, cannot even do that. Imagine if you could get paid millions of dollars to not do your job. I wonder why we give athletes a pass but not anyone else including the coach. Listen to yourself.
@RDSports55 күн бұрын
Look, I love Steve, and I usually agree and enjoy his takes, but not this one, not this season. Forget the five HUNDRED injuries we've had this season to our best players and best complimentary players as well, the reason you can't question the level of play of the current guys is because there have been personal tragedies time and again this year, starting obviously with Ricky Pearsall getting shot in the chest in broad daylight the week before the season, to Moonie losing his little girl and same for Trent losing his newborn baby. All these things matter. Last year, I'm sure there were some things that happened behind the scenes too that we never heard about, but obviously it wasn't to THIS extreme. To me, we were in a tough spot mentally back in April and May when there were clues that BA's new contract was gonna drag out. That hurt a lot more than the team was letting on and the media and fans wanted to accept, but it did. It hurt because not only was BA not getting in football shape and trying to make a legitimate run to back up a great last season, but it hurt Brock not having his top weapon to throw to in practice (Is it any wonder why he has such a great rapport with Jauan this season?? He was the only constant, not named Deebo, that he had at WR. Remember, Ricky had nagging hamstring injuries during camp too and missed a lot of practices then. Then, you couple these issues with a DL that lost both Armstead and Hargrave, who were the guys that helped you most in stopping the run/taking on double teams, which freed up your LBs, CBs, and safeties to help tackle in run support. Maliek Collins and Jordan Elliott clearly aren't Armstead and Hargrave, so that was a much bigger issue than originally reported. We needed a big, fast, talented pass rusher to bookend with Bosa after last season, but never addressed that properly in FA/draft. Leonard Floyd is an okay rotational rusher, but he's not somebody teams have to gameplan against, and this season has proven that. To me, that might've been a bigger misstep by John and Kyle than not addressing the interior of the DL. It also hasn't helped matters much that Kinlaw and Drake Jackson were both busts recently, and again, never replaced with other picks that were at least solid contributors in the last few draft classes at those positions Lastly, the OL wasn't great at pass protection LAST year, so I don't know why it's any shock that they aren't great THIS year at that. Difference last year was that CMC and all the other weapons stayed relatively healthy and pushed this offense to scoring 30 a game on average, so it was easier to mask it's deficiencies. I thought the super bowl though showed a glimpse of when you need to sub guys in due to injury, the talent drop off was significant, and that was addressed with just one player in Dominic Puni. Now, Puni has been great, very good rookie season, but he's just one man, and he doesnt play C, RT, and now LG as well, since Banks didnt play well and you're going to lose him in free agency. I'd put ALL of these reasons above Steve's point about not having enough "grit". Need talent and confidence to be gritty, and the 49ers have had very little of that this season. All that said, I hope the guys keep battling out there for these final 5 games, and we'll address these issues in the offseason when we can have the space to do it properly

I’m compelled toward Steve Young’s perspective. That’s a working definition of leadership. Complacent leadership results in supremacy of individuality. This is most evident at contract time. It also changes in context over time. The 2024 myth was that the 49ers had great leadership. The reality was that the organization had opted for energy and vibe over focus, and that includes all the coaching. A lot of injury, but the sense is that there is also a lot of excuses. Steve knows. Fight off the creep on both sides of the ball.

5:00 - Therein lies the rub. Only the great Steve Young can pin point it. Players are now overpaid, they're last place in their division, and there is no drive to push back. Kyle is not that kind of motivator. He's been blessed with great talent on both sides of the ball since day one. He's had two bites at the apple, and no rings to show for it. He's done. Steve Young needs to meet again with his investor friends from Oracle, Seagate, SF tech et al, and buy the 9ers from the Yorks. It's the only way. Till then, it will continue to be the 'bro network' with Jed, Kyle, Deebo, Kittle, MAGA hat, and Trent. #GoNiners

The problem with Young is he’s always struggled mentally with coping to stressful scenarios. It’s why he had such difficulty coming through in the clutch against Dallas and why, when he finally broke through in 94’, it was such a relief to him and weight off hsi back. Of course, that team was so overloaded with talent and playmakers that it was hard for him to screw that one up. And the Cowboys shooting themselves in the foot that first quarter of the Championship game sure helped his psyche.

I think that Lynch and Kyle are consumed by a desperation after losing the SB and they are desperate to run it back and win like we all know they should have. But we can't. We had one chance and we lost, it is not fair and the game was likely rigged but no one is going to cry for us, real men can cry about the back breaking losses but if you do cry then you MUST... Move on afterwards, we have not moved on, we are still trying to run it back. Giving Aiyuk that extension when he was not due for it because he wanted to throw a tantrum and then REWARDING that tanturm did NOTHING to help the team, it only hurt the team. The injuries and everything that has gone wrong this season is mostly out of our control but Kyle refuses to adapt to the league getting his book. Kyle needs to relearn fundy's again while the team retools for a year or two.

I'll make one statement on your channel. It would be interesting and credible to put Young or Montana as an OC for SF, but would Shanahan allow for that advice and strategy? The OL can play better, but for example, Colton McKivitz is not a starting RG and doesn't play like it. They have no backup for him, which in my and a lot of others is insane. Why because he is not a starter. If you want to put some fire up his ass to protect the pass rush or even execute blocking, I would say to him plainly, if you do not perform your back on the practice squad. Shanahan and his playbook may be coaching style may be in the top ten, but I think he is naive if he thinks his OL and DL is performing properly. Young is correct in saying they have lost the fight and just going through the motions that Shanahan is putting forward. Bill Belichick and Andy Reid style coaches would never let this happen or correct it right away. What is confusing is that Shanahan comes from the same pedigree as Reid. The DL has two jobs, prevent scoring and limit time to the opposing team.
