In this guitar lesson I'll be digging into the wonderful altered scale and how to use it over altered dominant 7 chords. It's not just for jazzers, and sounds really awesome over blues, rock, fusion etc., and can add some great outside colours to your improvising. A lot of folk are scared off by the potentially confusing theory that surrounds the scale however, so I'll be giving you 5 of my favourite ways of thinking about this - and (hopefully!) simplifying things along the way.

Amazing video thanks a lot. All your videos are great.🎉 But i did not understand how you decide fmajb6 petatonic over A7alt. What is the logic behind it? Could you pls explain how you decide that? I appreciate in advance.❤
@SteveAllsworth
@SteveAllsworth Ай бұрын
@ejderazizpeker8308 thank you! A couple of interesting things about FMb6 Pent - one is that it's basically an abbreviated form of the A Altered Scale. The other is that if you scrunch all the notes from an A7#5#9 chord down into a scale, you actually end up with the FMb6 Pentatonic - cool huh? 💪🏼

Thank you for this great video. Cry me a River and Careless Whisper are great examples that I can use at once. Now check this out: Over Em7 play Gm7 Arp (gives you a minor 9 sound) Over A7alt play Gm7/b5 Arp And then resolve to D major You will find chromatically descending major thirds in the II and Valt Arps. I use that in Girl from Ipanema all the time, because there you have II V twice in a row at the end of the B section.
