There's something special about that first 100 thousands dollars... it's the first 6 figures that you hold in your possession, it's a special achievement. It teaches you that *discipline* and *determination* CAN deliver results.

Goodness gracious. The intensity of the resonance I felt while you were talking about finding your fit. The thought of never finding the square hole is honestly terrifying. This was such a great reminder Steve. Thanks for the pep talk

For me, the 100k was the hardest. But 300k should be everyone's goal. Work your tail off to get there. Why? Because at the historical return of ~10%, that means it's growing 30k a year, which is more than what I can legally put away tax deferred. It's the point where I can no longer keep up with my own investments. And that's a great feeling.

The first 100,000 is a b*, but you gotta do it. I don't care what you have to do - if it means walking everywhere and not eating anything that wasn't purchased with a coupon, find a way to get your hands on 100,000. - Charlie Munger
@FerventReminder3 жыл бұрын
Except Charlie Munger is 97... Let's take him back to ~22 years of age (just to use some generalities to derive our figures). So we're Charlie Munger at 22 years of age in 1946, now lets take our $100,000 figure and use a basic inflation calculator (www.calculator.net/inflation-calculator.html?cstartingamount1=100000&cinyear1=1946&coutyear1=2021&calctype=1&x=126&y=26) which uses official CPI data and is likely way understated, especially when you consider the rubbish figures they spew out now. Anyway, let's be conservative and use this--it comes back with about $1,445,009, quite a bit higher than the nominal figure of 100,000 in that quote and definitely more so when you ignore bs inflation numbers.

A 5 year window seems to be a long time to essentially park your money for when you need it. The market in one of the worst financial crisis being 2008 recovered quickly. Same for this covid crisis. Having your money basically only protected from inflation is better than nothing but I believe missing out on the upside of the market outweighs the risk in a five year time horizon.

@@Lilbit2215 I was buying around 50 to 60 a share. I sold all my other holdings to buy more because I saw the opportunity was huge, and maybe had 12k worth and then the stock starting shooting up, so I bought maybe 12k with margin to secure the amount of shares I wanted to get, ive been paying off the margin ever since trying to own my shares outright, im down to 3k in margin now. I don't recommend people invest like me tho. I've done probably 500 hours worth of research on this company and I can handle risk so no panic selling. Index funds have proven time and time again to be reliable, tho I see tesla stock as about one of the safest stocks to own despite mainstream media saying otherwise
