I have been diving in the Mayan Rivera sometimes in the last 2 years. I never have seen something like this. Just amazing. I hope to dive this sunkhole soon! Regards.

Yup. El Zapote cenote has a rather dramatic halocline. Even more interesting is the halocline is posited by some theories as a partial reason for the hell's bells structures' formation. The process of their formation is still unknown and disputed. Some scientists believe they are formed via biological processes, but others say they have entirely inorganic origins. El Zapote truly is an oasis (pun intended) of scientific knowledge. The first specimen for the ground sloth genus "xibalbaonyx" was actually found at the bottom of the sinkhole.
