Targeting Flathead catfish at night but catching something else

I went catfishing on the Tennessee River with a couple of my Monster Rod Holders Pro Staff members looking for the elusive flathead catfish but the blue catfish decided they were hungrier than the flatheads. we were using live shad and cut skipjack for bait. Our target area was shallow water 25 foot or less around wood cover.

Circle hooks originally came from Hawaii, most people dont know that.But cat fishing is now entertaining to me after watching these videos, looks fun!!If you using live or cut bait circle hooks are best!!Proven thousands of times over!!

I had some flatheads doing that to me the other night. Not committing to the bait. Most of the time I usually don't happen. I see you guys had fun and that's what it's all about.

Big Ole Blue. Congrats. Mr Douglas. Those monster rods perfect for nite fishing. Have to get me one for flatheads to match my monster rod holders I got for the bank. It's some nice flathead holes on Cumberland river near Barkley Dam. Whole bank full of root balls and log jams on a mud bank. Only way to get to it from a boat though. You presented your bait in the proper spot and got that Monster Blue. It's a blessing to catch a fish like that. Wow. Reminds me of why I've watched your videos for years. Gave me a whole different approach to catfishing. Thanks.

Try using 3 inch glow sticks tape it on the outside of the end of your pole with 2 small strips of duct tape it does not interfere with your line. You don't have to stare at your pole so much because it's so easy to even see a twitch out of the corner of your eye..great video !!!

Just my 2 cents........I seem to get more false hook ups on Flateheads with kahle hooks. I know they say they work better than circle's from elevated positions. However I fish from the boat and the back side of spill way's at dams. Percentage of fish bending the rod, to making it to my hands....Has been higher with circles. I started off using kahle hooks and transitioned to Circle.

When them flatly are finicky like that I like to turn my bait clicker on so they don’t feel resistance and let them take off with the bait and when they go on a steady run flip that bail and they set the hook themselves improves my hook ups by a lot in those kind of conditions not thank you for your channel I have learned a great deal from watching your videos

I am old now, but still remember running trot lines with my grandma when I was too young for school. Have always been a catfisherwoman! Enjoy your video's a lot, haven't been fishing myself in almost 2 years and it's killing me! lol Gonna buy my missouri lifetime fishing license this year so I will be ready to go whenever I get the chance! Just got done with radiation and chemo treatments a couple of months back, so might be a while before I am up to it, but I will be up to it this year and I plan on going, by hook or by crook! lol

I tried those circle hooks..it went in the softer part of the mouth, which i didn't like at all. The old J hook usually gets in the tougher part of the lip, I'm not sold on circle hooks myself.

Circle hooks...SUCK!!! They are great for blues that hit so hard they hook themselves. Personally... I don't need help looking my fish. When they bite lightly...circle hook DON'T WORK!!!!

You boys missed every fish because you didn’t set the hook. Idc circle hook whatever I could have half that bite pick it up set the hook right through the upper lip or side of the mouth every time. You should always set the hook no matter the hook you have on
