My mom basically lived in the SICU for nearly a year, without the knowledge of the staff she bought 30 pizzas for the SICU nurses and doctors. @@jennylynwall3424 Yes, I feel exactly the same way. Everything you just said, I completely relate. The craziest part is the worst substances like alcohol and cigarettes are perfectly legal and socially acceptable, even though they are considerably worse. Even in extreme excess. It makes no sense. I've gone through the same thing with Pain Management, and moved on to Dependence Management. Which is ENTIRELY different than addiction. Unfortunately not many people understand that. I also believe in the right to choose. From medications, to legal human euthanasia. I'm not there yet, I'm hanging on for dear life, for my family's sake. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't want that option or think about it for later down the road. Eventually my diseases will literally eat up too much of my body, and my tolerance will make the medication worthless, which is why I'm so careful. But again, that should be on me. It should be all about education, oversight, and options. Not the government deciding my literal quality of life. It's the difference between life and death. Whether you can continue to suffer in agony, or just finally end it. I know it's a heavy subject, but I'm sure you understand.

My mom is from The Bronx and was born Dec 27, 1983. She was born with Cerebral Palsy because my grandma had a healthcare card and she went into labor Christmas night. She was thrown into the back room and the doctors and nurses proceeded to ignore her and drink. Since she had a healthcare card nobody took her that seriously. Those people were lesser since doctors and nurses didn’t get paid for treating those people I believe. Basically she felt like something was wrong but they kept ignoring her and when my mom was born she had Cerebral Palsy in both legs. My grandma blamed the doctors but they said it wasn’t their fault and she couldn’t take it to court because she was extremely poor. My mom heard about it years later and in 2002 she sued the hospital. It took until 2009 that the case was finally complete and she ended up winning and the hospital got shut down. There is an article but for personal safety reasons I won’t link it, though if you wanna search it’s a joint case and a NY times lawsuit. It sucks how much hospitals can get away with unless threatened with a lawsuit. ESP in the 80s. It really sucked but yeah just felt like sharing.

Oh boy, I feel you! I can't imagine how busy they are out there hahah, but sometimes it is really important that the patient doesn't get up on their own, I think mostly because of a risk of falling down, my first day in the hospital my nurse told me that she would much rather pick up anything from my bed (be it pee or poo) than pick me up from the floor, so I wasn't allowed to get up on my own either.

The nurse tells the radiologist:"she said she could walk, but she can barely breathe, she's been passing the whole way here, get her a wheelchair for the walk back" 😅 I think I made it worst by trying to make it easier.

Love your stories. Retired night shift supervisor/ED/Pharmacy/ IV person at a small hospital in Missouri. Most of your stories hit close to home. We had a pre-teen who was on dialysis while waiting to get big enough for his dad to donate a kidney. The kid did not have kidneys. He came in a couple of times a month with headaches due to his B/P being REALLY elevated. One time, when he was in the ED about 3am, the Dr came in and asked when was the last time this boy had urinated. The kid didn't say a word. Just looked at this Dr (who knew this kid quite well). He sat there with a snarky look, that 10 y/o's do so well, Dad was looking at the floor shaking his head, trying not to laugh. Doc finally realized what he had said. Priceless.
