@@kinjunranger140 You assume facts not in evidence. While his situation might be against the law, it is a minor infraction that does not justify abandoning minor kids along the roadside. In most cases the car is impounded, a citation issued, and an appropriate family member is notified to come retrieve those in the car. Policy was violated. This is no small thing by the police. My Dad used to work for a company that would test the software used in red light cameras. Sometimes cops would stop by, which my Dad hated. Once a cop bragged about something similar except instead of someone getting arrested, they confiscated the vehicle on the freeway, leaving the driver and their kids stranded. To make matters worse, the driver was in a wheelchair. This is one of the stories my Dad still cites, as to why he thinks police are sick individuals, society should get rid of.

Charging the Crumbley’s was a nice start to the school shooting problem we have. In Dodge City Wyatt Earp required everyone leave their guns outside of downtown town. If they were caught with a gun they were fined $100…That is over $3100 in 2024 value. Solved their problem. Why should gun manufacturers not be liable to lawsuits like every other industry?

That's a fact. When I was 13~14ish, a cop had accused me of committing a crime that I did not, I guess simply because I happened to be a person closest to where the crime occurred at the time. It has left a lasting distrust of police. As a side benefit, I suppose, it has kept me off jury duty, because when asked if I will unquestionably believe testimony of a police officer, I stated "no" and I have gotten dismissed for that.

Pardon for the 6 months later response, but yes, there's been video that a bystander took, and gave to the family, that showed him being arrested (KMOV St Louis aired it). And it absolutely was because he was worried about the kids being left. He wasn't a threat to the police at all, not attacking them or anything. He just didn't want to leave the kids. It looked like the police tased him to shut him up and so they wouldn't have to put effort into getting him in the police car. KMOV interviewed him later, and he said that they weren't that far from home, and he had just wanted the kids at least dropped off there first.

My wife was involved in a traffic accident years ago (sitting at a red light, somebody rear ended the vehicle behind her hard enough to shove it into her vehicle). We didn't realize it at the time, but the cop was supposed to give her a form to fill out and submit with her proof of insurance. Never gave her the other driver's info either, but luckily their insurance reached out to us and got the vehicle fixed. Anyway, since she never knew she had to submit a form with proof of insurance, her license was revoked and no notice was ever sent to us. She only found out 3 years later when she went to get her license renewed, and had to jump through a bunch of hoops to show that we did have insurance at the time. But had she been pulled over during those 3 years, she probably would have been arrested at the side of the road just like the guy in the story. All because of one uniformed jackass not doing his job, and a system that presumes you are guilty.

The problem is that the driver already had a summons, from three years prior, that he had ignored. A warrant is a higher priority than an infraction. They had to arrest him on the warrant -- but that doesn't excuse abandoning the kids.
@dash4800
@dash4800 Жыл бұрын
@@williamwallace9826 my point is things like that should not be arrestable offenses. That sort of violation basically boils down to not paying a fee, you should not be able to be arrested for not paying a fee. Especially when governments are incredibly inept at telling people and when police are so eager to crank things to 11 when they see there is a warrant. Warrent comes with a certain connotation and when a cop sees that their demeanor towards the person quickly changes to adversarial. It all leads to a situation that didn't have to happen if they weren't treating something so minor as if it were a real crime.

@Metqa
@Metqa Жыл бұрын
@@dash4800 I understand where you are coming from and the intention, but the problem is, it's not just about paying a fee. A court Summons is an official visit, to determine guilt or innocence about an issue, and there may or may not be a fine involved depending on the outcome. the Problem is if you sign that citation, you are making a PROMISE to go to court for that situation, that promise is why you are allowed to drive away freely, because you will come back on your own. Now I believe it is bullshit when you have to go all the way to another city becasue of ticket happy cops, but in that case they pirate the money off of you by getitng you to admit guilt and send the money to the place instead of showing up to defend yourself. So there are two ways to avoid being arrested or being inconvenienced. If a person promises to go to the court, but then they cannot, there is a procedure for telling the court, for example if you are already arrested and in custody, they cannot hold you in contempt. I you are in the hospital or something you can get it postponed. My Friend pulled over for something and then a ticket for not having insurance. He didn't pay the fine, to avoid going to court. So he was supposed to go and plead his case why he shouldn't be punished or whatever. but rather than go, he just DIDNT and he also didnt' renew his insurance, so when he got pulled over again, Because his tag was still expired, they saw that he had a bench warrant from last year for the same thing! That meant he could not be trusted on his own word, that is literally what it means. I was pissed because us being pulled over made ME late and I had to pay a late appointment fee. but I didn't feel bad for him at all because nothing had kept him from showing up to his case. They let him pay bail and I found him walking home from the jail. I guess he went to the second summons, but it hasn't come up in conversation. It is hard not to assume race has something to do with whether cops will treat a person with physical aggression. I hate to admit that I assume the family in the video story are People of Color, because why on earth would cops feel the need to tase a person over a warrant. Why they coudn't understand that a person would be combative being taken away from their children, even if the arrest were justified. My friend is White and the officers were practically apologizing to him for having to arrest him. I get the feeling that the officers who pulled over the family were NOT apologetic, and did not display any sort of concern or explain that they cared about the safety and well being of anyone in that car. Something as simple as " Hey Man, you got a bench warrant, and that means we gotta arrest you because you failed to show on a signed promise, but we gotta figure out what to do about your children. Do you have someone you can call to come pick them up? We are in no hurry and don't want to do anything hasty, but I have to arrest you and put you in my car ,so call your fiance, and officer Richard will stay here with the children until she arrives. " Even if the man still didn't like it, at least that would de-escalate some of the tension, and show that they aren't just bully arseholes out to get another number. Which they were, of course, but we can dream.

The tow truck driver removed the elderly Chihuahua and left it on the side of the road and then towed the car to the impound lot. When the family got his phone call from the jail they rushed to the area expecting to find the car with their dog inside. Instead they found their beloved pet of 15 years splattered all over the roadway, extremely dead. They were told that a dog is just property and they could only sue for the replacement value of getting another Chihuahua. Needless to say they were heartbroken and disgusted with the authorities.

When the criminal cops have the driver charged and held for court, at the trial, it would be inadmissible evidence that the children were left on the road at the criminal trial and the cops are exploiting this fact. The cops will also get credit for the arrest. There are early warning systems to catch bad cops early but no one monitors them. Again, they just put props in place to fool the public into thinking thhey are being cared for.

@@blue39503 unless there was a witness or camera footage of the abduction, in most states no Amber alert would be issued. Most states don't issue an Amber alert unless there is information that can lead to the perpetrator of an abduction for pragmatic reasons--if such information is not available, the Amber alert system would be overwhelmed with alerts for children highly unlikely to be found and people would start tuning out the alerts.

Funny how the department policy really doesn't matter. The moment they arrest him, they become the legal guardian of the kids at that moment. Something like this happened to me when I was a kid, but probably worse. My older brother was driving a tractor with a self-loading hay wagon behind it down the busiest road in my hometown with me and two friends riding on the loaded wagon when he got stopped. The policeman suspected him of underage driving and took him in the police car so he could take him home and get my dad to drive it. What's worse is that he left it in the middle of the road with cars from both sides trying to get by. I couldn't have been older than 11 and I had to get off the wagon and drive the tractor and wagon off the road into someone's driveway.

This is not totally surprising honestly. There are a lot of departments out there that ONLY care about arrests. They don't care about public safety. Things need to start changing, and these corrupt and disorderly departments need to be investigated and fined out the ass for their negligence. In some cases there are current officers that need to lose their badges. The legal system in the US is freaking abysmal and it's more wide spread then people know.

Cops aren't even allowed to leave vehicles unattended, let alone kids in vehicles. There is no reason to be in such a hurry to take someone to jail that you literally make a parent abandon their children. Some years ago a disabled veteran friend of mine in Wisconsin was pulled over late at night for, if I recall correctly, a burned out taillight bulb. She was given a fix-it ticket and ordered NOT to continue driving, and the officer refused to take her home. Really? A disabled female was supposed to walk several miles alone on the side of a road? Or sit in the car and wait for daylight, when the taillight wouldn't be needed? I don't remember exactly how this story ended, but I think she just waited until the cop was well away, and then drove herself the rest of the way home without incident. About 40 years ago I was pulled over for having a headlight out. The officer issued me a fix-it ticket, told me what the procedures were, and sent me on my way.
