Those Blues at 1.33 openly wearing their Everton shirts sat amongst the Mancs were certainly brave! It's fair to say the clubs went in opposite directions after this game, though it didn't look like it at the time when we gave Man Utd a proper arse kicking that night on their own patch. We had a really good record at Old Trafford between the 1983/84 season and 1992 and were a bit of a bogey side for United.

was at that game. Beardsley's goal wouldn't have stood nowadays with VAR, but what a great game for the Blues, back when we still had a great record against United.

1 things, I was there and I don't remember it being as one sided as that, there were chances at both ends just that we took them. Beardsley 10 years ahead if his time, I remember Kendall saying he was neither a forward or a midfielder, so it was difficult to find a role for him! He'd be worth about 70 million today
@tab6496 Жыл бұрын
maybe more, like 85 to 90 millions.

Kendall during that period bore no comparison to his time and approach from 1983/87 Beardsley often said he never wanted to leave Everton, and when invited by Kendall to his home in Formby thought it was for talks about another contract, he was told an offer had been made for him by Newcastle, deflated, he moved there. I had seen all Everton's great forwards from 1960 and Peter Beardsley was right up there with Alex Young for close ball control, finishing and football intelligence. Despite clinching the title in 1987, after a late drop in form by favourite's Liverpool, Kendall's decision to sell Gary Lineker, after coming close to a league and Cup double in 1986, set Everton back years. The fact that he followed Terry Venables from Barcelona to Spurs after a few years, showed how good he was as a goal scorer. Kendall, bizarrely defended the sale of a player who scored 40 goals in one season, and top scorer in the 1986 world cup, while still and Everton player, by saying he wanted to share the goals Lineker scored around the team. One wonders what the Man City fans would say if their manager sold Erland Harland and said he wanted to share his 50 goals around the rest of the team !

Easy to see why Ferguson had been so desperate to sign Shearer or Hirst - before Howard Wilkinson did him the greatest of favours.

Note for the commentator - United's number 3 is Clayton Blackmore, not Russell Beardsmore and number 5 is Darren Ferguson, not Lee Sharpe.

The Man Utd no.3 is Clayton Blackmore right? This commentator keeps calling him Beardsmore. Combining his last name with then Everton player Beardsley.

@@martinkulkarni3569 I was at the match !! I had season ticket 1992-93. We were crap that game. Had possession but couldn't try for goal. Not being funny but the match where we won 2-0 at Goodison a few weeks later was a much better game with Everton themselves looking much stronger. We were fortunate to get a penalty in second half but so many times it looked like you were gonna equalise...
