The separate military arm Space Force needs to be created to integrate Navy & Air Force's & CIA current space fleets and force them to cooperate and coordinate under one umbrella. The Space Command has existed since 1985 at Peterson AFB. Not one speech nor interview mentions that at all. I thought it was a presumptuous, grandiose, over-the-top name for what they claimed to do. We had crappy tanks in WW-II because the Welland Canal and Chicago River Project hadn’t been built, so the tanks had to be transported by rail to the East Coast, and bigger models wouldn’t fit the RR tunnels in PA. I've been obsessed with China since high school... I'm 32 now. I lived in China as a teacher for 3 years. I can understand some Chinese, but my speaking isn't great. Why? If you don't have a degree, go to college, if you have one, get an advanced degree. If you're interested in technology get an engineering degree and become an analyst of Chinese systems. Commercial systems, military systems, your choice understanding their capabilities at a scientific level is important. With a masters degree in Chinese you could become a linguist and go work for the NSA and listen in on Chinese communications for the purpose of collecting intelligence. You can also do the same for a corporation, however with them your job will likely be to facilitate the transfer of American technology to China. But, hey, you'll make a lot of money. :)

So your talking about putting about a thousand of these plants in space just to get an energy density of one watt per square meter that might be enough to charge a cell phone. Large amounts of electricity are used in making metals like copper and aluminum and even more is used in industry so even if you could send energy from space to earth it would be highly wasteful since you will never be able to recover it from areas you need for other activities or forests and desert areas.

I totally agree that we need to be dominant in space and Space Force is a great (and late) first step. However there's something fundamentally missing from the General's analysis. Say we build the dominant space infrastructure and all that and we do it before the Chinese. So what? Are we going to go to war to deny them from building up their own? In our current Overton Window of thought, the answer is clearly no. One need only look at the South China Sea to realize that we are lacking a fundamental ingredient that is necessary to build and maintain dominance in anything: we absolutely lack the will to declare war on a near-peer enemy, pretty much no matter what they do. Since WWII, the American mindset was switched firmly to "let's do whatever we can to avoid another big shooting war" due to the fear of the bomb. We've simply never grown out of that mentality and now it doesn't even matter if an enemy openly attacks us or our allies, the mindset still tells us that it's better not to react. Any insult or act of aggression and even open acts of war may go completely unpunished because we'd rather not bother with the mess of doing something about it. So China will continue to salami slice the South China Sea into their domain, and if they are allowed to get a foothold in space or the Moon they'll do the same there, because we lack the will to go to war to stop them from doing things we'd rather they not do. We need to get away from that mentality and switch it to one that's more "let's do whatever we can to deny our enemies advancement in key areas", and that would include anything, including war. Frankly we should have gone to war with China a long time ago. We certainly shouldn't be trading with them. We should be embargoing and even blockading them in order to collapse their economy and their dictatorial regime.
