i just can't help but think that this whole aikido thing is BS, sure is better than nothing, also Seagal has gone from young, skinny, zero muscles to overweight since "under siege" 1 and 2, so how does that fits into the discipline of martial arts?? look at him here, look at his belly, he looks like he binged in miller highlife and hotdog leading up to this show, he did these take downs millions of time, he ask the guys "grab me here", you can see that, also he seems like bored, like doing errands like folding his laundry, it's such bs, sure the guy would kick my ass and yours but does he stand a chance against a 250 pound of muscle jiu jitsu or kickboxer?? i don't think so, i think the guy is just a lazy ass, that can't control his eating, he was accused of sexual assault countless times and he told for decades lies about working for the CIA, etc, the guy is a total disgrace, a clown.

This is a demonstration. I understand your point though. Martial arts are different that street fights in so far--and especially with Aikido-- as their aesthetic, philosophic, moral and martial dimensions. The principles (or Katas) in action among opponents are a language and communication which might resemblance a dance because, in the overall, the philosophical and moral principle is to harmonise during confrontation, never using force against force. Aikido, among many things, is about blending, getting off-line of the attack and knowing how to fall. Therefore, the purpose of the dance-like movements you see it is not self expression but self-defence. Flow and rolling are techniques to avoid injury and pain. Knowing when to fall and when to stop resisting can save you an arm. And yes, it works in the street.

Really devoted his life to martial arts and was a professional trainer in Aikido for many years before he went Hollywood (whether you like it or not) 2. He is known to be a very well trained Aikido practitioner (whether you like Aikido or not) 3. He made a career out of it, and I am pretty sure he was not chosen for his looks and acting capabilities 4. What have the rest of you done in Martial arts? I have been practicing all my life in Martial Arts and one thing I learned out of it is to NEVER judge what another man is doing, just focus on yourself and your technique. And you can learn something from anybody, even from a beginner....A good question from a new student has made me think on a technique and effectiveness more than any other circumstance in my life.

SASR Commander Actually many UFC fighters were brought up in rough areas e.g. in Brazil and have had numerous fights in the street no rules. I'm sure Steve could handle an average guy in the street but a pro athlete UFC fighter trying to hurt him he would be unlikely to stop. Look at demos of Aikido on here you never see them pulling of some throw or lock against someone really trying to Box them or take them down or Muay Thai kick them etc. In demos when they defend kicks or punches - a punch is leave the arm out technique and defence against kicks usually traditional Karate kicks. If you do Aikido back it up with other arts at least an art with strong striking.

Very good point. it was disrespectful to skip the bow. also, to be honest, his technique is very sloppy. i know he is older now, but compare this to a video of Morihei Ueshiba in his later years. O-sensei kept great form and balance long after he was grey. Another person commented here that they can't really spar like in boxing, which is true, but the point of practicing is to build musscle memory. Segal is a recognized name, but he looks like he can barely walk in this video. I'd like to see him drop 50 lbs and get fit again. I wish him good luck.

I noticed that, also. It is extremely disappointing.

Before reading any comments, I can imagine people who have never been on the mat with a practitioner of aikido or join a painful lesson with a club will slag and laugh at the effectiveness of this stunning art.

Never worry about imbeciles showcasing their stupidity; Steven Segal is a master of his craft; who needs validity from morons!

i just can't help but think that this whole aikido thing is BS, sure is better than nothing, also Seagal has gone from young, skinny, zero muscles to overweight since "under siege" 1 and 2, so how does that fits into the discipline of martial arts?? look at him here, look at his belly, he looks like he binged in miller highlife and hotdog leading up to this show, he did these take downs millions of time, he ask the guys "grab me here", you can see that, also he seems like bored, like doing errands like folding his laundry, it's such bs, sure the guy would kick my ass and yours but does he stand a chance against a 250 pound of muscle jiu jitsu or kickboxer?? i don't think so, i think the guy is just a lazy ass, that can't control his eating, he was accused of sexual assault countless times and he told for decades lies about working for the CIA, etc, the guy is a total disgrace, a clown.

Steven seagal really made it look easy. At next i propose, stevens opponent should try to throw steven seagal, only as a demonstration. No idea how that will work out...

The first thing I notice in the video (and during any match too) is if the opponent bows out of respect for him/herself, ppl around you, and dojo...which Mr Segal DIDN'T. Could he have forgotten?...possibly But the counter argument is that he's been practicing since he has a teenager if not younger. Just an observation, not judging the man.

By not bowing (or barely bowing), it shows that he is the person with more power or authority. At least, that is how it is done in Japan.

One thing that is wrong here... he must have shown respect to his oponents before the demonstration has started. He ia the star here we know, but you must show some respect. However, he is still one of the best aikidokas ever!

Lmfao the music is great! I thought this was a joke video because I'm laughing so much at it. But then i realise it's uploaded from the Russian Aikido Federation. Which makes it worse because they think Aikido is real! Or is it a fake account...? 🤔

In any real competitive fight - in any discipline martial art etc, the fight will involve elements of struggle. In this "demo," there is zero struggle; the moves are as choreographed as in WWW

Yes:)
@daboodeef1799 жыл бұрын
Mathew Ridyard you realize that the whole point of Aikido is to blend and flow with your enemies movements and use their energy against them so that there is no struggle and the defender can use as minimal energy as possible. getting into a force on force struggle is stupid (in my opinion) and low level (compared to high level masters).
@loganobryant2349 жыл бұрын
I agree 100% any one who has ever been in a real fight competition or not has got to struggle at least to some degree anyway everything thing I saw was closer to dancing with falls than any form of actual aikido match... Scripted as movie!
@matty24709 жыл бұрын
Nicely put logan, I understand the point of aikido, but until you show me a video of Segal against a top cage fighter brushing them off like they were mosquitos, I don't buy any of this.

guys, its just a demonstration, not a real fight, he is what he is, an actor, you can't judge a martial art or fighting system, based off one dude
