In September, Steven Spielberg gave this exclusive interview to "Friends of Quinn."
I think a lot of people will find it motivational. Find more information from the interview at its original link.

I found this fascinating. He's a solidified genius, so the fact that he's dyslexic shows how misunderstood learning/reading disabilities are by many. Where I think he's wrong is when he talks about it as if he would have been better off not being dyslexic. I think the reason he's so creative and has the ability to imagine the way he does is BECAUSE his brain works a certain way. I think the mistake people make is labeling this a "condition" or "disorder." I think it can definitely create challenges throughout life, especially when from a young age we're trained to focus and become narrow-minded... But there's a good and bad with everything, and I can almost guarantee that the most creative and insightful people in this world weren't "normal" growing up. Case in point. Once again, truly fascinated by this.

My son is dyslexic with myotonic dystrophy. Steven Spielberg has always been a role model. Thank you so much for this heartfelt interview. Now he can look up to you as well. He's inspired to pursue his interests in travel photography, and documentary video because of people like you.

Different caliber of men together . . . painfull to watch . There must have been a reason why this " interview" to place the way it did. However the generosity and candor of Mr. Spielberg was truly a gift as huge as his persona. Thank you !

Great interview. I was never diagnosed with dyslexia but I have trouble comprehending anything verbally and it's made me feel like a moron most of my life. I wasn't able to tie my shoes until 2nd grade and I never learned my multiplication tables. I really wish I would've known earlier bc it's left me with very little self confidence and a lot of resentment towards people. I don't feel like a victim though, it does get to me and sometimes I just want to lash out and beat the shit out of "bullies" but that's a life where you're letting others define who you are for you. I'm enough to rise above having a toxic complex and gain the courage to understand.

I went through many of the same difficulties throughout school, especially junior high. I also dropped out of college after my sophomore year because of my scholastic struggles. I found the career of exploration geology in South America, and returned to college with a vengeance, almost completing my PhD. I self learned about dyslexia when I was about 30. I too wished that my reading related difficulties, which were severe throughout school would have been recognized so that I didn't have to suffer the stigma of being "slow." Everyone should read "The Gift of dyslexia."

I remember those days struggling with reading and being worried that kids at my school are going to make fun of me and worried that teacher was going to call me up to read in front of the class and wishing I was a normal person

This is an intensely interesting interview. Steven Spielberg is candid and open. Quinn Bradlee reveals himself as a perceptive interviewer. Good questions and he allows his subject to answer the questions. Especially helpful for anyone with learning or social challenges.
