Anita's not an aunt omg. And, yeah I saw her portraying Anita on Glee. Lea and Naya were perfect Maria and Anita. But she wouldn't have be able to play Anita cos Anita's around 18 i think & Naya was in her 30s.

@@naaraitilson5446 one of the reasons why Rachel would play as Maria was that the actress was Jewish, so she had a connection, but it annoyed me. Also Natalie Wood wasn’t a Latina, the only one I think was Latina in the original film adaptation was Rita Moreno. The rest used dark make up or dark tan to make them look as if they were Puerto Rican.

So hauntingly beautiful! Fun fact, this movie was actually a passion project for Spielberg going back nearly 65 years; he only had the cast recording growing up in Arizona in the 50's, and he was always picturing how he would film some of the songs. You can definitely tell that this was a passion project for him based on this clip alone.

@@manuelorozco7760 sondheim said its a song he’s always found embarrassing after having wrote it...which you know mans 90...and everyone is their own worst critic...that said id heard the song often and wouldn’t have known it was from west side story had i not watched the film in chorus class...it does feel kinda out of place as in my opinion its the only song thats 100% upbeat with no real sense of somberness or snappyness that the rest of the numbers tend to have

That's my niece, Skye Mattox, as a Jet girl, on the R in the face-off. She did the World and National tours, and made her Broadway debut in the WSS revival in 2008, so this film is full cycle for her.

The fact the movie looks good is unlikely to be because of Spielberg, it's probably because of the editor. Spielberg is famously notoriously bad at storytelling. The original Star Wars trilogy was an unwatchable mess until the editor (his then-wife) pulled some magic to make the thing coherent and fun. The prequel trilogy bombed because Spielberg had a bigger hand in the script and the editing.

My FAVORITE since I was 8 years old - I am now 69 and it still is!! My Dad took me on the set of the original when they were filming on the see saws in Harlen and I was mesmerized!! I wish it was coming out sooner !! More trailers please!! ❣❣

I absolutely love it already. Can not wait. As a child I watched the original with my mother and was just moved by the choreography and storyline. I saw it on Broadway as a kid and it’s been my favorite romantic tragedy. I just finished watching SPIELBERG documentary on HBO MAX and know he is going to make this amazing. SPIELBERG is one of the most revolutionary visionaries in history. His life is a movie. Unbelievable how he surrounded himself w GEORGE LUCAS, SCORSESE, COPPOLA, DE PALMA and they were all top talent in Hollywood helping each other & suggesting different angles and movies. Could you imagine those creative sessions with all those brilliant minds when they were just starting out? It was probably magical. You really have to surround yourself w people who are better than you and compete amongst friends and see your own personal success flourish.

@@mediterraneanworld Funny story about big screen vs. small screen. I had seen "West Side Story" over a dozen times between rented copies and the copies I bought. It was not until I saw it on a big screen that I noticed the Sharks bright socks and the line "irradecent socks wit the same color shirt" from Billy Joel's "Keeeping the Faith" made sense. They are bright eye catching socks, and you are not going to notice/see them on a small screen. Also, there are things about location that are difficult to notice on a small screen. That being said, I understand if someone doesn't feel safe or comfortable going to a movie theatre this year.
