Me neither! It just seemed like a weird assortment of food and random not food. But now it makes sense. Also Bluebird knows she has Steven and Steven knows it. If he isn't allergic and refuses, he is being rude. But if he is allergic, he reveals a weakness to someone he doesn't trust (and turns out he was right not to)

I like that I've been able to see representation for myself in Steven Universe as a trans guy even without an explicitly trans character - with early Steven and everyone calling him "her" and "pink" and "Rose" and all their effort to deny that there has been a change and they're not the exact same person from the gems and diamonds and spinel- and then I look like Rainbow! We're soft and feminine and fancy but still a guy! And then with how Rose's Rainbow was Huge and Important and Confident, but then Steven's is smaller- I feel small, frequently, and it's nice to see this physically changed character in addition to the name and pronoun change of Pink Rose/Steven. The change from Pink Rose to Steven was not the same thing as Rainbow, Rainbow says he's 2.0! But Steven was never Pink or Rose. So while it did make me nervous to watch that episode where nothing was happening due to the stress of "oh my gosh they're wasting this limited series for something so silly!" It was also really important for me. I've never seen the good in myself represented before, I related to Spinel A Lot more than I want to admit, but even she wasn't the "representation matters" moment for me that 2.0 was. He's very important to me.

Just wanted to put my own perspective on this as a big Greg fan, Greg's the reason I'm growing my hair out. For him to cut his hair like that? I legit screamed. It was devastating and I'm still devastated. And I wish the episode as a whole was heavier and more reflective of what Greg's been going through, but again. We might get that later. I desperately hope so at this point.

I felt so bad for Greg and his hair. Perhaps I'm looking too much into it but cutting ones hair is also symbolism for change / leaving behind ones past. His hair being roughly the same length and style for 16+ years most likely held a lot of sentimental value. My favorite part of Bluebird is the moment when Bluebird is just wailing on Steven screaming "die die die etc" and Steven's reaction is just: "See?! I told you so!" I'm so glad that the moment this fusion showed up in the trailer everyone was like: "Kill it with fire!"

I'm also wondering about the story but I don't want to complain because I really love that we get to see all our favorite characters again and the faith of ending is practically staring the series straight in the face and I wanna hold on to this show for as long as possible. I got into Steven Universe just about as late as you did, I remember I use to hate it so much when the series was just starting and just earlier this year my friend made me realize this show existed and for so long I just didn't want to watch it but she was so sure I'd like it so over the summer I watched the whole show and of course I loved it, I loved it so much and it was so I amazing to sit down and watch and enjoy and even the 'bad' episodes were actually pretty good, Steven Universe helped me a lot with my depression and anxiety and it's still helping me realize that I can't help everyone and I'm gonna enjoy that as long as I can

I cried the moment we had Rainbow 2.0, despite only getting like 5 seconds of him before, he was my favourite character by far. Possibly because he's the first real.. Not obviously female gem? If you look back at the moments we get of rose and Greg her playing with his hair was shown more than once. So I think him keeping his hair long all this time and stroking it with his eyes shut is to let us understand how big the sacrifice is. That's one of his physical connections left to Rose and he has to give it up to protect Steven.

I agree I love the fan service to a point. But up to episode 8 and there isn't really a story going on. When I saw that shot of the antagonist in the intro and teasers I thought there was gonna be a story going on. But it's been more or less just Steven living his life. Which is fine, it is a prologue, which for that it's doing great. But thought it'd would be less prologue and more extra adventure with new problems and journeys in the horizon. So far it's just been super chill.

I say this because when Greg's hair got cut, the friend I was watching it with freaked out and screamed at the TV. I don’t remember if you’ve mentioned this in the video, but the message I took out of it is that you don’t have to forgive everyone, and even if you do you are allowed to be uncomfortable around them or just not want to be friends with them. Steven bends over backwards to be accommodating to bluebird despite not trusting them, and if he’d respected his own wishes things probably wouldn’t be as bad.

I actually think these episodes were *very* story-heavy, because I'm pretty sure the story this season is going to be very much an internal journey on Steven's part. He need to learn how to set his own boundaries to curtail his destructive levels of selflessness, and both of these episodes tie into that in different ways.
