The third song from The Future Bites sessions is Drown With Me, performed with a drum machine, piano, and 2 acoustic guitars (one Nashville strung). Written in 2001, a version of the song was recorded the following year by Porcupine Tree during the In Absentia sessions, but this session version is based on the original demo which has a different chorus. I'm not sure why I changed it at the time because in retrospect I like this chorus better. Both the original demo and the Porcupine Tree recording of the song are included on the recently issued deluxe edition of In Absentia, so you can listen and make up your own mind which is best!

Lyrics: So you have been of use And you have been abused You know you look pale today Your lipstick has gone astray You sold out and lost your looks You gave away all your books (You should drown with me) Your coil has been wound up tight Unwind it with me tonight (You should drown with me) Cleaning the windows and cleaning the floors Little homemaker, you lawn raker, love maker, rest your bones Swim in these eyes that are black from the fight Little housekeeper, you big sleeper, grim reaper, let it go Orange filter sky You're drowning in family there When will you come up for air? (You should drown with mе) Your coil has been wound up tight Unwind it with me tonight (You should drown with me) Cleaning thе windows and cleaning the floors Little homemaker, you lawn raker, love maker, rest your bones Swim in these eyes that are black from the fight Little housekeeper, you big sleeper, grim reaper, let it go Orange filter sky

Yeah, and it may not have ever been made public if it wasn’t for me. Here’s the backstory: Someone shared a private copy of a demo CD I let them borrow that I had got from some people who worked at a video editing studio. The lady I met first from the group happened by a chance meeting while getting a haircut earlier that day and when she told me she was going to a PT concert that evening I was like “you know who they are?!?” So I had met her earlier the same day that her group and myself attended the L.A. House of Blues IA concert (to which I got 2 free tix to from Andy Leff, and brought along a date with me). Now, I have no clue what fucking fool fashioned the name of the demo CD “Out Absentia” (which obviously stuck) and doesn’t even make sense. On MY physical CD-R (which btw were lossless CD-DA files; not the mp3 files someone put online and then later someone upsampled them and claimed they were lossless, but I’m the only one with the true lossless files) the video editing people had just written “PT In Absentia demos” on it and they never told me how they got the demos, and a month after we met we drifted apart. Steven got so pissed off at me for this fiasco (even though I still won an online .GIF making contest for PT, and they sent me like 13 CDs including one I never opened as I had another, the last of the original “Recordings” CD never to be unwrapped which were supposed to be a limited edition run of 25,000 and never re-issued, and also an IA single signed by the band) he had a “street posse” guy show up at my work and hand someone there a tube with one poster in it and full of confetti which went everywhere, but the douchebag didn’t wait for me or I would have beat his ass on the floor of my shop, so I’m not very fond of SW or his Street Team as people but I’ve let sleeping dogs lie and don’t care anymore - and he STILL won’t let me post on his Facebook page after all these years! It was 20 years ago! I’m 42 now, you’re an old man, just get the fuck over it, Steven! I love SW as an artist (although I have no clue what TFB will do for his career and how ironic it is that the 4 B-Sides tracks are the only GOOD ONES; same with FOABP - Nil Recurring, the B-Sides to it were so much better). His solo album Hand.Cannot.Erase was, in my opinion, his solo Magnum Opus. Porcupine Tree had many! Signify, In Absentia, and Deadwing were the three best albums that came out of PT. So that’s the story for those who don’t know the truth behind the IA B-Sides release.

Yeah, they both work well, I think I prefer the darkness of the released version and the melody of the demo version. Tilberg live version is my go-to version and the same with Normal and Dark Matter. One thing I really like about Steven is is he doesn't abandon his old music. It annoys me sometimes when artists complain when fans want them to play their older songs.

I love watching these sessions of yours. Make more of these videos, it is impressive to see the work and dedication you put into the music, now I understand why the auditory details sound so deep, everything is done by hand and analogically (without a doubt that is my favorite way of making art) That's why it's impressive to see the fidelity of what was done in the studio and live. I always wanted to know what your studio looked like and how the spaces that correspond to the sound were designed; Yes, I had imagined that there were undoubtedly recorders and a classical piano (although I thought there were many more synthesizers and a huge console very much in the style of the Celldweller or Trent Reznor studio; but that detail in question has pleasantly surprised me even more since it It makes me wonder how you achieve so much detail and atmosphere live at the level of digital sounds). How happy it makes me to know that there are still musicians or artists fully dedicated to the work of art and above all who mostly use the interpretation of instruments as part of the creation. Today it is almost impossible to find that music is not made by a library. of sound (I like digital, I feel that it is great and positive as a contribution or a unified resource to the classic but Sting was right when he says that today's music lacks the bridge or going to the bottom in the middle of the song; for me, the music from before remains linked to your heart, it is tied in an endearing way to your life and your feelings, you do not get tired of it because of its constancy and fidelity, without a doubt, everything in my life is like that, a true romantic and without a doubt music does not escape from it, therefore I feel that musically I am more inclined to what needs time, search, interpretation and I would say even a type of creative meditation). The detail of always being barefoot creates such a bohemian and uncomplicated atmosphere in me that contrasts greatly with the order of the studio and the perfectionist that I know you are in the field of composition and recording, I like it because you normally see a lot of posturing, lack of control and Everything feels very guided even in sessions like these from other musicians, I say this because of the people I work with in music and what I have seen in other studios as a learning experience. This reminds me a bit of Pink Floyd's studio recordings, musically concrete and well done but creatively relaxed and open.
