It was really interesting to hear him talk about how he writes music. It's so different from a band like Dream Theater, where they just sort of jam out and noodle on their instruments, and make those sessions into songs. I've been listening to "The Raven Who Refused to Sing" recently, and I'm just blown away at the compositions. The way the instruments coexist is just mind blowing.

This was a very thought provoking and good interview. I feel as though sometimes social media can be an obligation in the sense engaging in order to "exist"… Can anyone else relate?
@Hyde21429 жыл бұрын
You know, I understand him saying that teenagers shouldnt just communicate by using social media but I'm not sure if he doesnt underestimate some positive aspects too. I mean I go to school. Everyday. I meet so many other Boys and Girls in my age (15y old) and well I know why I don't go to partys. I know why I don't talk so much to them. Why I always listen to music in the school and why I am talking like 7, 8 hours everyday to other guys like me, on a Teamspeak Server and not in reallife. Because in the Internet people can be connected and can find each other, who arent accepted just as they are in school or at work or whatever. You know before I went so much into the internet I had many interactions with the others...I made jokes, some girls were a little bit interested and all in all... I just have been the loneliest guy in the world. Or at least felt like that which might be enough. And in the Internet I had the opportunity to find people just like me. Or at least similar on some points. Understanding who I am, and how people like me try to get along in school. For me the Internet or especially some people I found in it just rescued me before being completely destroyed in school and reallife by trying to fit into what some people call "social life".

as much as I love Porcupine Tree, Steven really doesn't need them anymore. Transcendence is the word that comes to mind when I think of this album. He just keeps getting better and better as a solo artist with each record, and follows up one masterpiece with another even better than the last!
@kevinsmithwick75309 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I thought the Raven was the best piece of music that I've heard since Selling England By The Pound. I thought there was no way he could top it. The new album is different, but also excellent. I love it more with each listen.

actually, Steven Wilson mentioned in another interview that Porcupine Tree is not broken up, but rather on a hiatus. He said that when musical ideas for PT arise in his mind, he'll work on them and have the band get back together and work on possible new material.

Wonderful interview. I've seen him live twice in 2018 (an ABSOLUTE MUST DO). I do have to ask, why are they playing The Raven that Refused to Sing (from a completely different album) while discussing the making of Hand.Cannot.Erase? I find that a bit odd. --- Great interview though! Steven Wilson continues to amaze me. Look forward to him getting back in the studio!!!!!
