One of my personal favorites. I highly recommend you watch this, if you don't know Steven from before, you should give him a chance. He really is one of a kind.

Craig Ferguson is one of the most talented guys ive ever seen. He is far funnier than anyone doing late night TV....by a mile. He was a comedians comedian, and you could see that in these Steven Wright appearances. Two geniuses that had fun riffing together, and i never saw Steven Wright do that with any else. Its friggin criminal that we have a TV full of unfunny garbage on late nights now, and Craig Ferguson is gone. Like everything else these days, all we have is the memories of better times. Even Conan, as young and quick-witted as they came, was afraid to talk to him off script (script being normal boilerplate green room topics given by the guest day of). CF could. And did. 15:43 a really good example of Wright's comedic style, and a trap that Craig falls into. "He was using a dotted line." You get a face and eventually a smile from Craig, he's thinking technically and he thinks it's a pretty decent joke. Then he relaxes, and Wright goes on, "he caught every other fish." Craig had already let his guard down and the add-on genuinely surprises him and he can't help but laugh.

There’s something very intriguing of two people who can have absolutely nothing planned but can carry on a comedy routine for 20 minutes about absolutely nothing and not one hitch. It’s kinda like watching a painter that has no idea what he’s going to paint, throws a splash or a squiggle of paint and goes from there. Somehow it comes out uniquely beautiful and you just have to have it and take it home with you.

These two fit together like Abbot and Costello without the need for rehearsal. You can feel the energy as they feed off one another. I've been following Steven Wright since the early days, seeing him in interactive situations with different egos over the years. I'm happy to be able to reconnect with Steven, I thought he had burned out, especially when he more or less went off the grid for quite a number of years. Thanks to KZbin and now The Jayleno Fly making it possible to develop a timeline, chronicling his appearances past and present, I got a feel of where the man's head is...far from the earth at any given moment. Steven always takes over the interviews and his glib, deadpan style often confused his interviewers, with his concepts flying over their heads very quickly. It is taxing, to say the least, as an audience participant trying to keep up with Wright. It appears Ferguson has managed to match his outside-the-box and abstract humor and throw him off balance. And as this compilation shows, Wright warms up to Ferguson around the third meeting in this series and actually gets Wright to crack up regularly, something I didn't think possible. This compilation is perfect to display the interaction of two silly men utilizing Pythonesque humor but on a bit more intellectual and less silly level, although the silly is certainly scattered all throughout meetings. I am watching for a second time and still have a big grin on my face that will continue till the finish. Lots of fun. I am glad he and Ferguson have gained a new group of fans and they truly appreciate his slightly off-kilter way of thinking. It appears he has a solid sounding board with Ferguson bandying words and ideas back and forth, matching Steven quip for quip and thoroughly enjoying it. Thanks for this compilation and effort in making it possible.

I love it too...but Steven is sort of out-gunned here. His standup is absolutely brilliant, but it is written, practiced and performed as standup...he isn't a match, in my opinion, for the absolute brilliance of Ferguson, when they are both on the fly, riffing. There were some funny moments from Steven, but he seems genuinely awed at Ferguson's comedic brilliance, and often doesn't seem to have a witty comeback. Agree the best pairing ever was Craig and Robin Williams...those two were on the same level, and kept ascending to higher levels as they riffed...those were wonderful shows! I sure miss Craig (not to mention Robin!).

Yeah, I saw him a couple times. The first time, I reached a point where I wanted him to stop, because I was literally in moderate-to-severe pain - stomach, back, shoulders - from laughing hard for roughly 90 minutes straight. The thing is, most of his jokes are one-liners, so they're all punchline. You don't get any recovery time before you're busting a gut again. Oddly, the second time, he wasn't terribly good. Don't remember exactly why.
