Your interpretation of You Don't Go To Parties was actually so interesting, I never thought of it like that but it actually makes a lot of sense. I really love that most 5SOS songs have this insane duality that they can mean something to one person and then a whole other thing to someone else. It just shows how incredibly they are with their lyrics. This album is a masterpiece, I just want to tattoo it all over my body
@UnknownPerson-so2 жыл бұрын
I literally just thought of something. Ashton and Luke's song writing has gotten so recognizable that I'm sure that I can almost always guess correctly who wrote. If you think about it... Have you found what you're looking for! I don't know who I'm looking for. Now that Steven has said this, I'm sure that this explanation is what this song is about.

his analysis was what i have always thought but i thought i was negatively approaching the lyrics and that there’s no way anyone else thinks this. i love that i’m not the only one who thought that

When they were 16-18 they used to get the red line in London for their songwriting sessions and that’s why u hear a train at the end of the song. They said the song is melancholic cuz we’re all on this train of life.

Oh I'm so glad you mentioned your interpretation of You Don't Go To Parties because mine is actually really similar. To me it feels more about the "narrator" of the song realizing their stuck in a stage in life they should've moved on from already. Like the friends all moved on from partying and drinking and start building families or careers or achieve whatever milestones, but the narrator is still clinging to that different lifestyle. Honestly "now it's 5am, clinging to my couch and everyone I ever knew is standing in my house" sounds more like an intervention to me in that context. I still took "You Don't Go To Parties anymore" to be about a potential significant other who could never be found at these parties because they've also moved on to a more mature lifestyle, but I love your idea of this line being the narrator chastising themselves in a way. This is why I love watching these album reactions. It's always interesting to hear a different perspective!
@katehakanson3102 жыл бұрын
I LOVE your interpretations of the song meanings! That makes so much sense! And I just really hope that writing these songs was therapy for these guys and able to help them feel connected to and understood by one another and so so many other people. We know both Luke and Ashton have touched on their struggles with substance abuse and escapism in their solo projects and interviews and Michael was very vocal in the past about mental health struggles as well so... Ithink you're spot on, Steven, and it makes sense that those themes carried into this album as well. Wishing them and everyone here health, healing, and true joy. 💙💙💙

Calum's improved falsetto and high range is messing with my brain and on some songs I can't tell if it's him or Luke or Ashton singing, which is actually really funny because I experienced the same thing before (in 2014 when self-titled came out). In comparison I can identify Michael in a second so that's what I got going for myself ;) You Don't Go To Parties has my heart, that guitar solo and Calum having lead, it's been on repeat since release, I love it to death. I also really like your interpretation of the song, it's so nice to hear a different view on it. Anyway, Calum's voice and bass made me feel like I'm levitating (or falling upwards) so thank you very much Cal ♥ Also, I'm so grateful for a full Michael song, I've been waiting for a solo Michael song!! PS: Haze is sung by both Calum and Ashton but in that moment that was Ashton haha (same for Flatline, that is Cal not Ash)

I honestly had such a hard time telling when it was Calum during my first listen of the album. I feel like I’m previous albums they didn’t tap into his lower range as often and they definitely did in this album. He did amazing with leading a lot of the tracks. I’m so glad that each of the guys got more vocal attention in this album. The amount of insane harmonies too is so exciting and I can’t wait to hear them live.

Michaels voice is such a unique style that I can always recognise it and I’ve always said his singing is my favourite (not saying the best but my fav) where people debate over Ashton or Calum singing, I believe it is Calum. Wow. I'm astounded. This album has been on repeat for me since the release, but my mind never thought that themes like alcoholism and substance use and just wanting to get away from the demons that are our minds and emotions were that evident throughout the album. I loved hearing your interpretations of the songs, and my interpretations seem kind of shallow now, compared to how deep you delved into this. It's really shone a new light onto this album, and really helped me to realise how talented and mature these boys are in terms of songwriting. I loved your interpretation of You Don't Go to Parties because it is one of the more ambiguous songs on the album and I think you absolutely are onto something there. I loved your reaction to Emotions as well because not a lot of people love that song, but you have really changed my views on it. Thank you for this, I love to hear other people's interpretations of songs, because it really makes me wonder what these songs are truly about. I think you have a very brilliant mind when it comes to music and I can't wait to see more 5sos content from you!

I am always happy to see you react to these guys. A lot of these songs hit you hard. But Emotions got me because of my own Depression and Anxiety and having someone in my life telling me things I need to change and not wanting to cry but you can't help it and wanting to be left alone needing that space and a little bit of time and honestly sometimes I hide in the bathroom away from my husband and kids locking the door to get the space and time.

Got to agree with the *ONE* commenter below who said...this is not {yet?} my favorite album by them. HOWEVER now that I understand the songs better, I actually like a lot about this album. I don't know that I'm at the point of playing it by itself on repeat just yet, but I'm definitely going to be shuffling it in with their other stuff FOR NOW. Really love 5sos overall, I love the way they continually mix it up and evolve and maybe our lives aren't evolving the same way right now and THAT'S OK! I have people in my life who do struggle with these things so I feel like this album in particular can actually help me help them, if that makes sense. And as always, I love watching Steven's reactions to their music. Dude, you always crack me up and I appreciate how honest you are.
