she is singing in the Arabian musical scales, cuz she's part middle eastern from Yemen. You should check out Elyanna, she mixes Arabic genre with mainstream pop and it sounds ethereal yet hip hop

She's British and Yemeni 🇬🇧🇾🇪 She's also referencing the north of england here (she's from Newcastle) when she mentions mackem lol. Her traditional Arabic vocals work so well in this arrangement and are so stunning! The instrument that is being played is called an Oud - it's a traditional Arabic instrument (it's like a guitar type instrument) and provides that beautiful sound to the song 😊 To translate what she said in arabic ليس لديك أي العمود الفقري lays ladayk 'ay aleamud alfaqriu: "you ain't got no backbone" love love love that she spoke some arabic in it!! ❤ I'm glad that you've reacted to a BBC Radio1 Live Lounge! Stormzy is a rapper yeah but Chase and Status are an English DJ duo, who do DNB/garage so the original song is a bass heavy dance banger! Which, even harder to make it what Jade did tbf, all of the melodies are uniquely hers so it’s EVEN cooler. Love the inclusion of Arabic and the traditional middle eastern arrangement, Jade’s been louder and prouder about her heritage in recent years and it’s lovely to see :))
