This old gun was in very rough shape when it came to me. I decided to refinish the stock and reblue the barrel. I was asked to mount the red dot to help aging eyes see the POI better. I mounted a Magpul rail section using the rear sight leaf screw hole and drilling the second just behind the existing hole. This is set in a fashion that will allow the rear sight leaf to cover the additional hole if ever the reddot sight is removed.
After refinishing the stock, bluing the bolt and small parts I polished the barreled action in preparation for bluing. The polished barrel looked so good I decided to leave it polished. I shined up the brass insert for the front sight and put it all back together.
All parts wood and metal, have been treated with a FrogLube seasoning. This serves to stop corrosion and will protect the finish on the stock.

This was my first rifle. got it from Sears in 1977 for 29.95 with a 4X scope. Seeing this video reminded me how much fun I had with it and the smell of the Hoppes gun oil.

You saved a good rifle. I am restoring my Father's Springfield 120A. It came to me when he died. It is pretty much the same gun you have in the video. I was perplexed on how to disassemble the bolt until I found your video. Awesome work! And much appreciated.

Thank you. I sandblast the stock with glass beads on low pressure then wet the grain and sand in the stain. Then seal. It is topped with FrogLube treatment. The metal can be 2 things depending on the application. FrogLube is the #1 treatment that I use. Sometimes for parts that will see harsh conditions and or cannot be accessed easily I will use KG products Kphos.

continued... That is where it is at and justified for an interest in firearms. After you have that down and everything established that you have good intentions and are trained and competent, you can branch out into collecting, and/or creating and modification. By then you will have much more of a leg to stand on and be better equipped to deal with people like that. I can guarantee that I would not have had the same problems. This is many factors that can be helped with good training and exp.

Thanks for the video, it was helpful because I took my bolt assembly apart and didn’t remember how it went back together correctly. One note though in your video you show where you put the extractor and then tighten it down. The extractor was not in all the way the extractor does need to be seated all the way in first. Thanks again.

Just cleaned up my dad’s old Steven model 15. Not 15-A or any other letter, just Model 15. My grandfather bought it for him used when he was 5 back in 1943. It was in pretty rough shape and had been stored in a garage by my cousin for who knows how long. After watching this I found out I am missing the extractor and the firing pin. Other than that it is all original. I got rid of the rust, cleaned the barrel and the stock and it looks a lot better. I am not going to redo anything. Keep it as is. It is one of the few things I have of my dad who Passed away 10 years ago. My dad used to hunt woodpeckers, rabbits and squirrels with it growing up. Funny thing about the rifle is that when my dad was 10, all of his friends had BB guns. My dad wanted one too. My grandfather was opposed to it. He just knew my dad would shoot himself or a friend with the BB gun. Meanwhile, he bought my dad the Stevens rifle when he was 5 and taught him how to hunt. Thank you for this video.

I know this is super late but thanks for the video. If you don't have much experience, it would be very difficult to know how to disassemble the bolt. "Which is true for me.. " the groove on the inside of my bolt carrier had seared smooth so the bolt was able to spin and stay aligned. Anyway I did find a used one and was able to get it right.. So the ole 120a lives on.. my young nephew is learning the basics with it right now

I own a Steven's Model 15 but 5 is wore on barrel and trying to find out how to get it punched back in. The 5 almost looks as if the top of 5 is gone .. i just love mine and will never sell , trade or Loan out or even pawn it (EVER!!) I might have made a big mistake but i painted the barrel with black gloss spray paint and when that dryed i sprayed clear high gloss cover on it but looks really nice and will not know if i will have it reblued but maybe someday !! What I did is Refabbed the stock / Restained. How ever it's looked at doing... but it is one simple rifle and easy to clean and right on target with open sights !! Cannot ask for any better firearm to own!!

Great vid. Thanks for making it. I’ve got an old Springfield model53A 22 single shot. May want to refurbish. It’s got a very strong button spring and it seems like too much of a jolt when pulling the trigger. I’m wondering if it’s possible to put a softer/weaker spring in the bolt? Thanks again!

Listen, you are a smart guy. Be done, or don't be done,but make your decision based off of what you want. You have a creative itch that needs to be scratched but guns are a hot topic and tricky subject that can have many strings attached. My suggestion is to find another outlet for your creativity, then continue on with your interest in firearms but in the right way. Find an instructor (I can help you find one) and begin to train on how to responsibly protect your and your family's lives.

Well the best advice that I can give you is to read every book that you can that a SEAL has written. I have found more inspiration and structure in reading numerous books by various SEALs than anything else. Get your goals and stick to them. Don't let fun and little side things distract you from your goal. Put in the work and effort in the short term (school, work) and then reap the benefits for a lifetime. Don't let stupid shit like what just happened hang you up. (she was stupid for calling)

You have the ability to do great videos, please take the time to put them in proper order and don't waste our time with explanations about what happened to make the video out of sync etc. Short, sweet, GOOD content with no back and forth, with explanations of why of why you didn't do it right the first time and you will have great videos that I will look for first.

I appreciate the candid review. On many of these videos they are shot and then due to my work load I am unable to edit them until sometimes months later. I do my best but simply do not have the time to catch everything. I have been very blessed and are very busy in the shop so as always the KZbin videos are a convenient byproduct of my work and do take a back seat to completing jobs properly and on time for my customers. One fault of mine is that I do not keep my project files on all of my videos so once I render them there is really no easy way to go back and change them. It takes up too much storage space to do so. Most of my videos are spot on, I do ramble and run my mouth lots! My videos are often longer than necessary and that is where the wonders of fast forward enter the picture. haha Again, thank you very much but enough about me... So what track is that at in the picture by you name?

If you remove the pressure from the trigger and sear by lifting it up and sliding it over to one side or the other it will relive the pressure on the stud allowing you to remove it without gouging up the stud.

nice work. can you please tell me the specs on how you tapped the barrel. like what size drill, tap, and screw used [was it the magpul screw?] and how far into the barrel did you go? also how did it turn out in relation to accuracy...i have one and i wanna do this
@teamklr2bar
@teamklr2bar 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks, for the rear I just used the factory rear sight screw but had to open up the rail section a little because this screw head was larger. For the front I don't remember exactly what I used but there should not be an issue using the factory Magpul screws. Just take them to the hardware store and buy a tap for there threads and the proper drill bit for the tap. To figure out how deep to drill just take a measurement at the breech end of the barrel for your thickness from the top of the barrel to the top of the chamber. Cut that in half and then you can add just a little to that half. That will give you an approximate max depth reference. It is paramount to machine the rail to be concave at it's base to fit the contour of the top of the gun. After you do this contour you can stick the screw through the rail section and see how much is protruding down. Compare this to the max depth you got earlier and see if you need to cut the screw down some or not. Remember that you will have to either purchase a second "bottoming" tap or another of the same standard tap and then grind off the tip so you can thread closer to the bottom of the hole. The untouched tap has to be used to start the threads. It is almost impossible to start threads with a bottoming tap.

lots of things there. What state are you in again? They should have never called the law on you, but are you a minor? If so that could be why. It's like this though: I can "with a ccw permit" legaly sling an AK pistol over my shoulder and walk through the local mall all while being completley within the law. It is a pistol, and we have legal open carry. Thing is it would be a bad idea because it would cause panic. Even though no laws would be broken times are sensative now and some rights don't
