When the blue salt is in your truck it looks like a lot of salt, when you dump it in front of that pile it looks like a pickup load. lol. Stay safe and healthy Shane.

The blue additive is to lower the temperature the salt will work down too. Not sure exactly what it is, but it works. I have also seen beet juice mixed with salt for the same effect. Beet juice works great as a replacement for calcium for hauling aggragates. No need to worry about getting it on your hands or gloves or boots, it wont ruin them like calcium!

The "blue" is just a dye so it can be seen better while spreading

@@tomcander3669 I'm afraid not Tom...I do the maintenance in Seaforth where he gets the blue salt from...its actually a chemical de-icer as well as a blue dye ...somewhat corrosive but lowers the temp that the salt works at
@tomcander36693 жыл бұрын
@@tooez90 then thats been added by a 2nd company. In the States blue salt is nothing but a dye. Purple, green, or orange has been mixed with an agent. Morton Salt used the blue dye as their claim to fame for years!!!

The additive that turns the white salt blue allows a better visual trail for road crews to determine what area has been salted to reduce overuse. It also makes the salt more efficient in melting ice & can melt at lower ambient temps. The blue does 'cake' easier then the white. I'd like to see a 50/50 mix of blue salt w/ sand to decrease salt use & more efficient salt spreaders used by municipalities. All water has minerals in it which includes some salts. A saltier concentration in freshwater does reduce the oxygen level for fish. Various aquatic plants can be planted to offset the salt levels. There are other methods that can be used during the melt/runoff period.
@blauer25513 жыл бұрын
There is blue, green, brown, pink, white, and red that I deliver. Different melt temps and granular size and price of course.

Do you coat your chrome and other vulnerable metals on your truck with WD-40 to protect it from the salt? I heard another driver talking about that and how it added a layer of protection from the salt.
