As a retired truck mechanic, I always thought Ford was one of the best engineered trucks of all, And Fords were one of the easiest of all trucks to work on because they were engineered that way. I always thought GMCs and Internationals were designed by engineers that hated mechanics.
@Mephilis783 жыл бұрын
I feel that way as a regular mechanic lol I think the idea with GMC is that they want people to go to "official GM mechanics" so they make it to where nobody else wants to work on them. Every newer vehicle is like that, btw. Even the Fords.
@RJ1999x2 жыл бұрын
I found the General fairly easy to work on
@4321grp2 жыл бұрын
@@RJ1999x , As far as GMC's the General was not as hard to work on as the others, although one thing that made GMC's harder than other trucks was that the rear engine mounts were on the transmission bellhousing instead of the engine flywheel housing like other trucks. Also the fact that the Detroit engine, instead of being mounted level like most other makes of trucks, was actually tilted when it was in the truck.

The LTL's were some of the best trucks ever built. Super heavy but also bulletproof, and lots of room in the cab as well. My uncle used to run two of them pulling tankers, one with a 350 Cummins and one with a Cat 3406B. Don't see too many of them with the woodgrain dash, that's pretty cool.

Hopefully whoever bought that old girl is giving her some love and bringing her back to her former glory. Still for what she looked like and how nice that CAT ran, it's a pretty decent truck. One of the only Fords I actually like, along with the CL-9000 cabover tractors.

@@StevensLTD Someone seriously looking for an old truck such as this one isn't looking to just jump in and drive across country. Ok, so it stinks inside and is a bit rough on the outside. But the idea is to find one that is complete, straight, and affordable. The new buyer is going to spend a pile of money restoring it. So getting it at auction for $20K or so gets you a nice, restored old school truck for less than $100K....without all the new electronic shit that comes standard on a new truck.

This is probably my favorite model truck from that era. LTL9000’s are such a beautiful design, especially the front-end and grille. The big chrome grille, and four headlights look shiny and beautiful, but aggressive. If an LTL9000 came up behind you in the left lane on the interstate, instinctively you’d want to get over to the right, and get out of its way, with that aggressive-looking chrome grille staring at you in the rearview mirror. Beautiful, old truck. I enjoyed seeing this one.👍🏻

@musicauthority99392 жыл бұрын
I don't see why it doesn't get driven much. if it's in any decent shape it would be the first truck that I would pick. I drove an LTL 9000 heavy hauler dump and pup with a three axle trailer and a drop axle on the tractor. it had a 3406 B with a eighteen speed transmission. it belonged to Asphalt Paving company that kept their trucks in good condition. and it was a sweet truck to drive. it was easily as good a truck as anything offered by the three OTR truck manufacturer's. the one in this video with some serious TLC would be a really good truck. after driving one of them I wouldn't have any complaints about driving another one.

In 1986 I sat in one of the last CL9000 cab overs. Just a fantastic truck. Actually it was just up the road from you guys in a Ford dealer in Burlington. I wanted to take it out for a spin but the sales guy wouldn’t entertain it or even take me for a ride in it. I had a class A CDL or chauffeurs license in the states and a class 1 HGV in the UK. As I wasn’t buying one he didn’t want to waste his time with me. Tosser. About a year later in Orlando Fl I sat in a brand new LT 9000 Aero. Both trucks were a red/purple and silver. Got the same answer about a ride off that sales guy too👎. Ford built good trucks here in North America and Europe. Good workhorses cheap to run and maintain.🏴🇺🇸
