This is one of the best fishing videos I've seen in a while. You always check out and back up your points with evidence---experience, video, etc. Thank you, Steve. Love the content you provide on your channel.

This to me is the ultimate bass learning channel hands down. Other channels tell you how to work a bait or sell you a bait. Steve teaches you real world experience he encounters, and most often backs it up with underwater footage.

A lot of anglers are locked in on that bottom dragging mentality this time of year and I think you put it perfectly how that can hurt the bites we get. I'm fortunate that the waters I fish have so much vegetation that the oxygen levels stay roughly balanced for the most part. But even I have switched from dragging a jig or a worm to fishing above those fish!

When I measured the length of my van it really hit me how easy it is to fish below them. I know I have done it way too much by accident.

We had over 5” of rain in a huge long storm last week. Water dropped 4 degrees and totally changed the fishing. Bass we’re all over the place from stirring up mud to 14’ deep. I have never been more confused in my life. Only had a couple of hours on the water and never got a bite. That’s rare for my home Lake.

That is a lot of rain in a short time! One of the worst tournaments I ever had in my life was on Beaver Lake in Arkansas where it just poured nonstop and the water levels rose a lot. The angler that won fished a bluff bank where those bass didn't spread out as much. I mentally beat myself before I even launched the boat that day. We are getting some storms right now.

That is a great perspective Steve! Thanks for the underwater footage. I live in East TN and it gets really tough this time of year. I went out today and tried a new approach. I fished laydowns with a jig that were in shallow water. I had a little success, but I think that if I might have presented a different presentation, I might have caught more. Its all a puzzle that's fun to put together.

I've done it again caught another big girl yesterday 8 lbs 1/2 oz! Super hot shallow water like all the rest. Sense June my 4 biggest have been 7.4 - 8.05 - 8.6 - 9.3 Big swimbaits & big worm & frogs played a little part too. Had 5 others above 5lbs & multiple 4's also. Good vid as usual. Ivt been learning this hot shallow thing first hand this summer. I used to try fish deeper years previously

@@SteveRogersOutdoors yes sir, it will be!I've been fishing this lake for almost 2 yrs now sense we moved down to southern SC from Cincinnati Ohio area. I finally started figuring out how to catch these big ones in this lake. It took a lot time on water in my kayak to put it all together.I've been writing down all details on all these big bass 4+ lbs. Like the date, times of catch, lures, water depth, temp, structure of any. Other than hot shallow water, & big baits. That's only things very consistent. I can't find any correlation with moon phases or the Bass Master fishing calendar? Most of them were caught on days & times that the Bass Master fishing calendar says should be bad, except one. Do you ever pay attention to any of that?
@SteveRogersOutdoors
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
@@maxcole3930 I don’t use the moon calendar. I figure when I get out there I have to figure them out no matter what time it is. Lol. I know a lot of anglers do though.

@@SteveRogersOutdoors I never paid attention to it before either until recently because one of the big ones was on a new moon. The rest were in middle of full & new moon phases. I know the moon phases have big affects of saltwater fishing because of the tides. Just something else I thought may be worth looking into. But hasn't shown me anything promising yet

Thanks! Definitely will impact smallies too. A lot of the smallmouth waters tend to be clearer, so that vegetation will often grow deeper and will impact oxygen levels.

If I can get away with it and then water is really stained or has lots of that algae, I try to get away with a bladed jig, but if that fails I will immediately go to a ned rig or jig rig. Great question!
