Thanks for another flash back Steve I drove a L8000 tipper for a while in the early 80,s V8 Cat 13 sp Eaton 14 yd tipper,pulling a Fewings tilt trailer with Backhoe as a 23yr old thought I was king of the Road LOL. There was a Tanker crowd in the 80,s United Tankers they ran a fleet of LNT 9000 all VT 903,s bright yellow trucks pulling SHINNY wine tankers very nice rigs in their day ,looking forward to seeing your Louie get Road worthy . Cheers Kym Adelaide

Great interesting comment thanks Kym. I believe they were a popular truck mate, especially the ones with the little v8 cats. Still a lot here in Sydney. Not all going but some sitting around as well. The rust gets them bad, which makes it hard to get a good one

Glad to see you used a Kenworth fuel gauge for checking the tank. Them metric Bosch ones you find on the ground here in Canada cause no end of trouble in US made tanks. 8^) Good to see the 9000 going again. Worked around a lot of them when I was a kid. The Chinese plasma cutter seemed to unleash the power of the universe pretty good on those frame plates. Cheers!

Go to a fleet gaurd mob and get a dca water filter it conditions the coolant and make sure you change bypass filter along with the rest . The 903 are the best v8 cummings made and properly sorted you can get 600 reliable horse power . To replace the starter you will need to take exhaust manifold off it is the only way they come out . Look after it and have known them to get a easy million miles between rebuilds .
@stevesplacedownunder
@stevesplacedownunder 11 ай бұрын
Hi mate. I will do that. It has a housing on it that has since been bypassed but that’s exactly what it was. I want to preserve this and my other one. Thanks for this information

Hey Steve, glad to see a video from you, its been a few weeks. Nice truck to be putting back on the road. I had a front wheel lock up on my truck after I put new calipers on, thought it was the rubber lines. I relieved the pressure by removing the lines. Went to back up and tore my driveshaft in two. Wheel was still locked solid. Anyway glad to see you on the Ford. Have not received your email yet. Jim from Connecticut

Hi Steve. Just a heads up. Im in my late 50s and been on the tools all my working life. Light and heavy vehicle. Mate those battery power rattle guns are deadly on your hearing compared to air guns. Wear ear muffs. Cheers
@stevesplacedownunder
@stevesplacedownunder 19 күн бұрын
Hi mate. I actually wear earmuffs for 12 hours every single day I’m working, because it’s something I worry about. But sometimes at home, especially when filming and talking, I don’t. But I certainly know what you mean. I’m a earthmover mechanic and in a workshop for 13 hours every day, so I have them On because of all the dreadful noises in there. Thanks mate

Prefer the one on the right, what a stance without that bottom trim at the front. To see all that chromed up underneath, what a front view that would make! "Chrome wheels the lot here" says the thoughts.
@stevesplacedownunder
@stevesplacedownunder Жыл бұрын
Hi John, thanks for the comment mate. Yes the one on the right does sit a lot more proudly I completely agree. That one needs a cab though, apart from that it’s a really good truck. Great drivelines and chassis. The reason I got this one going is because of its longer chassis to fit the water tank and because of its cabin is a lot better. Still rusty but a lot better overall. If I ever got hold of a good cab I would make a beautiful prime mover with it

I reckon that truck will look good when its done and what are the plans for the red mack
@stevesplacedownunder
@stevesplacedownunder 11 ай бұрын
It will eventually look good mate yes. The red Mack I’m not sure yet. My dad bought it from where he was working for very cheap. Runs great but the chassis is completely rotted from being a bin truck all it’s life. It’s a shame too because would make a great rigid truck with the long rails
