It is great you got something out of the video . Main tips is don't screw your foil up to tight and you have to break the rock cast up and reassemble or it just looks wrong . I even keep the plaster from the mixing cup , let it set squeeze it so the plaster shatters and stick in a tub to be used in ruined buildings etc.

I never liked the foil mold look but breaking up the cast into pieces seems to work very well and gets rid of that “tinfoil” look! I will definitely try this!

Arathae Maxus I agree a full face of a single cast does not look right and using caulk to stick it allows for more variation. The other common mistake is screwing the foil to tight that when flattened and cast you have a lot of foil stuck in your cast.

Your HOW TO of landscape is the first I will actually try, all the others had special latex, special foam, special glues for the different foams. As a first timer, who wants to risk $50.00-$100.00 on something I might throw away, if I blunder it up. Super super job, by the way. And thanks for doing this, so many will be inspired to try this because of your share.

Playing around with ideas on junk is always best even the flock was home made on this build. Caulk and plaster of Paris is very cheap and always useful . Main tip is dont screw the foil up to tight or you will get loads of bits stuck in the plaster.

This is the right way. Building something very beautiful without spending a lot of money. Very impressive result. I'm gonna use this to improve the scenery on my model railroad.

I always love to use packing materials that cant be recycled , I get given polystyrene from people when they buy a tv etc . I need to do a video on wire frame hills for railways or back drops.

Thank you for watching. I normaly let the left over plaster residue dry in the mixing cup then crush the cup so it shatters the plaster , the bits come in useful in builds for rubble etc .

I know the frustration of static 'attraction' with styrene debris well. My solution is simply to spit on my hands and rub them together over the waste bin, the moisture kills the static electricity. Discusting maybe but it works for me. Bit late but somebody might read it!

Normal tap water with a small amount of dish washing soap to break the tension. A brush over the foil before adding the plaster helps reduce surface bubbles as the water is pulled back into the plaster.

How do you tie in your base into your landscape without there being a slight rise/lip?

The base hardboard is only 3mm thick so does not stick out to much on a tabletop game board. If I was building these hills for a diorama or railway setup I would do them straight on the main board or on a base like this ,stick it to the main board and blend the edge in with the texture paint and flock to match the main board.

Static does make things interesting lol. I have been told a wet wipe to wipe your fingers reduces it , I am tempted to put an antistatic cable on my work top and connect it to the metal desk legs to see if it helps.

The final PVA glue and water with droplet, that seals everything right? Does it wear well after 6 months? Is there other methods you've tried for spraying a clear laquer?

Using the pva method it seams deep into the flock locking it on , you find spray varnish etc sits on the surface so if the bond under the flock is weak it will give. You can use IPA to carry the pva into the flock if time is a issue as will reduce drying time just mix it with water to dilute it down to about 80%.

Rub your hands with a dryer sheet so the styrene won't stick to you. Keep it hand for touch ups.

Do you mean the tumble dryer sheets you get ? . I did think of trying a earthing strap we use for PCB assembly to see if it would reduce the static.

What kind of glue did you use for the styrofoam? Was it PVA glue? Because that's a very big tube for gluing it down.

I used builders caulk to stick the Styrofoam down. Pva is fine to use but dot it when doing large areas to avoid warp and help it dry.

Hello I just have a simpler method I hope you enjoy 😊 make a guide of the mountain with the styrofoam, mould the foil around it, take off the foil then put in plaster then let dry and hey presto

It took so long to film I ended up using table spotlights to get some of it done so it could dry over night , I have improved the lighting in the room I use since then but need a new camera as it died.

You go to a lot of work and detail to make a very convincing base, but then the bases of your miniatures figures are large, geometric, and unrealistic. Perhaps you might reconsider your choices?

They are normaly in a dungeon or rubble so based for main use on a std 1 inch base to make movement easy .
