In the pattern making business, we call them fixtures. We haven’t used the other term since the 1960s. It just better describes the device.

The helix structure looks a bit like the Roman Colosseum to me, I think that would make for an interesting display in itself.

What he may not have seen from other videos is N scale struggles on that corkscrew or even the slightest grade elevation i noticed...theres a vid on that subject entirely on another train channel i cant rem lol. Ya them wheels be squeaking 😄.

I overweight all my rolling stock which helps keep things on the rails better. of course you need to keep shorter trains when you do that.

@@StevesTrains im messing with magnets under the elevating tracks to keep from slipping...works really well actually and doesnt cause induction interference .

Wow ! I'm very excited for this project. A while back I say a N Scaale layout with 2 Double Helix on each end, with high mountain bridges connecting the 2. I placed that into long term memory.

Steve, I've been wondering what kind of screwy project you were going to come up with next. 😄 I will be watching to see how turns out. I do have a helix project coming up so this will give me ideas.

I never glue or hodge podge my stuff in my layout permanently . Hot glues on my posts and power poles and mounted rocks on the mountains but thats all because a layout can always be redone or re arranged if you leave it like a puzzle. I was thinking of making fiber optic trees to change the colors for the seasons and other odd functions. Second i wanna make a travel case for easy transport like a guitar case layout would so awsome .

That's a great idea laser cut helix. I think I would try one because it is all figured out instead of me trying to build it from scratch and figuring the elevation of one. Can't wait to see you build it. GOD BLESS 🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕

Love this, similar to my Batman layout but much bigger.

I would buy and build one of these if it was available on their website!

The same one I have is available on the website. Not with the extra loop on the bottom since that will be my own addition.

I'd love to build an On30 tabletop layout for 0-4-0 or 0-4-2 critters and 4-wheel rolling stock but I imagine there's not enough vertical clearance for On30? Ah, I see it's only 2" vertical clearance above the railhead...likely not enough. Oh well.
@StevesTrains28 күн бұрын
It is designed for n scale so would need to be redesigned to accommodate larger scales.

Me too, and I just sent a message to PMR. I know the market for HO (I run On30) may be limited, but this would be so cool for my new holiday layout I'll be building (not for this year). I just retired and am starting plans for my new tree layout.

@@tomc6229 I just checked -- 3" vertical clearance would work just fine. No need to change the radii. I wonder if I could mod the double-helix to make it work?
@donaldraver27 күн бұрын
I would be really interested in a ON30 small helix

This is cool! I am struggling in making my first layout 😅. I just uploaded a video as well.
