People can say they understand...but they don't. I have to read lyrics for some of my favorite bands, and then it all starts to make sense! This was great! You should definitely do more like this. Oh! You know that awesome 12ft skeleton that Home Depot has? I finally got one!! 💀 He has been named Reginald Q Skellington Esq...Attorney at Law. I felt like he needed a regal name. This is an interesting video concept, Steve. However, watching this made me wanna see you react to (almost any song by) the Melvins. I once watched an interview with the lead singer where he once said that basically the lyrics don't really hold any water for him in the songwriting process. He mumbled the lyrics because he lost the lyric sheet

Actually, Cocteau Twins are intentionally incomprehensible - they originate from Scotland and many of their lyrics are written either in a rare scottish dialect or are just nonsense. They play dream pop, which, similarly to ambient, makes atmosphere and the sound of the vocals alone more important than the message of the song. EDIT The same case with My Bloody Valentine.

As a metal head who has been a metal fan for most of my life, in usually only understanding about 60% of the lyrics and then the rest has a nice rhythm. Quite frankly, it's about as understandable as half of the rap that's out now, so... I've always found the more recent rappers to be more like rock stars than rappers, and this was one of the reasons why. That and the commitment of just about every rapper now to a melody, where you can often hear the inspiration from grunge and hard rock styles in their vocals. Uncle's in some cases. Even metal styles like with Denzel curry. Most most of Denzel's early music has a high pitch very intense metal-esque delivery. Like yes, some of the new rappers are inspired by other rappers, but there is heavy influence from grunge, punk, and metal. And that's not just Machine Gun Kelly. It's almost my whole generation and our little brothers and sisters. We like it because we like 90s rock. They like it because they like the emo s*** that came after and new metal Lincoln Park Paramore and. My Chemical Romance are the 3 most refer to inspirations that I've come across, It may be some Bullet For My Valentine, which I didn't listen to but a lot of people did, and now there's a whole emo rap genre and s*** like. Like mostly the music that I listen to in middle school and high school is the music that inspired a lot of these young artists. Like Lil Nas X is a pop singer, but he has some serious Nirvana influences, and you can hear it in a lot of his earlier music (Panini Lil Nas X and In Bloom Nirvana).

I am so happy to hear that I'm not the only person that ignores lyrics! I only listen to the music, I listen to each instrument closely and visualize what they are playing. My wife is a vocalist so she is the opposite and is all about them lyrics and it drives her crazy that I can't bring myself to care even a little about lyrics.

This is true of most of their songs, some of their earliest catalogue used real words, as did some of the later catalogue, but the majority didn't. Still love them though, got to see them three times too. Just beautiful music
@Idolhands7007 Жыл бұрын
@@deedeewinchur also, Frank Black of the pixies and Kurt Cobain..in some songs..I think) used a similar approach to writing lyrics. Vocal melodies were sung with nonsense words that they later turned into words or phrases that didn’t have much meaning contextually. It’s a sort of cut and paste approach to lyrics. Like the meaning is secondary. How the syllables and sounds fit into a melody is more important than what the words mean in context. I don’t know. I always found it an interesting approach to lyrics. Sometimes they’re not the point of a song. Sometimes they’re what make a song great.
@deedeewinchur Жыл бұрын
@@Thephilmills yes definitely Cocteau Twins is amazing. Elisabeth Fraser has such a beautiful voice. She did a stunning cover version of Tim Buckley's Song to a siren on the first This Mortal Coil album. God that brings back memories, I'm going to listen to Victorialand...
