I’d love your insights since you’re very knowledgeable with eKits. my church looking to change to this model Roland but I’ve found the EF Note drums thru your channel and love the fuller sound and looks. If budgets weren’t a worry which drums would you recommend ? and how’s your experience with dependability of EF. thanks

this is a great question but also hard to answer. I don't want to influence a bad decision so I'm reluctant to give direct advice... One of my musical journeys is also playing on a Praise Team at my Church. We have an acoustic kit with clear sonic panels in front and of and foam panels behind the kit. There has been some discussion in our church about switching to electric drums. I'm really reluctant. In a worship setting, I feel acoustic drums really fit the songs better. I like nice thuddy toms and dark cymbals in a worship context. If we elect to transition to edrums at our church, I'm going to try to bend the conversation towards ef note. I prefer my Roland kit at home for recording. I think the module has a lot more on board capability. However, in a live music setting, especially in a worship context, I believe the ef notes will do a better job. I've used both kits extensively. Two of my main issues with ef note are durability and the capability of the module. I believe ef note would probably hold up in a Church setting because we typically don't play super hard in church and the kit won't be set up and torn down a great deal it will be mostly static. Additionally, I think the on board functionality of the module would be fine in this setting. Again, I'm not looking to sway others opinions, I would encourage everyone to do their own research and try to play the kits before purchasing them. If you have access to an ef note kit (probably more difficult to find) I would strongly recommend trying before you buy... hope this helps

Very interesting and helpful Video !!! The point what you say about that the rack isn't portable instead of the stands I don't know exactly whether I can agree with that. I struggle a lot right now because I have a small car (Seat Ibiza) and have to fit everything in there. A VAD 706 with one 10" Rackton and 2 Floor Toms fits in but there is less space left for cable or even a Rack for the Interface or other stuff. I think about to go back to the setup which you have that I`m more flexibel also in clubs where there is not that much space at all sometimes for the drummer... Its a luxury problem but I really try to decide what's better a flexibel setup with rack or the big shells which looks more acoustic but are sometimes difficult to fit in the car and take more time to setup as the rack. Maybe you could say something to my point again. Thanks a lot !!!

I totally agree pads are more compact than shells and thus take up less space in the car and on the stage… for me, stands are easier than the rack…

You don’t want processed drums to being with… you want to tweak your own sound so it isn’t just another electronic drum kit… I engineer so I might be coming from a different angle… but I think it’s better this way.

I don't own a TD50, but I have the TD27 which shares some of your gripes. My first big disappointment (besides out of the box sound) was that I expected that the digital snare, ride and hihat would free up the 5 TRS inputs so could add additional triggers. I was pretty bummed when I found out that those inputs get overridden as soon as you plug in the digital triggers. The cable harness now has 5 TRS inputs (2 for the ride and hihat, and one for the snare) that just hang there unused. In addition, the rack is designed assuming you want a 2 up 1 down tom setup, if you want 1 up 2 down you have to get really creative. Thanks Gibraltar ;)

I hear ya, I looked at the 27 before settling the 50... the 50 has a bigger nicer rack but ultimately we all have to make choices... thanks for stopping by...

Actually I just remember a video of the Edrum work shop where he plugs in the digital pads from Roland to a pearl mimic pro and it is obvious all that Roland did was move the midi processing from the module into the pads and then send that combined with the regular trigger signal of course is going to take over the other inputs is the exact same midi channels.

roland also has a huge amount of capital put into r and d. that investment needs to be recooped in the sale of the gear. mesh heads-roland. full size rubber cymbals that work well-roland. positional sensing-roland. digital snare, ride hh- roland. theyre pretty much push the whole tech forward.

Man you might not be the sharpest tool in the shed but you can trade for sure. How much have you spent going back and forth with your local store on all these drums only to never be satisfied and create all of this insight for us? At this pace a drumtec with a mimic pro is not that far out.

it was certainly a journey... I was a Roland user, switch to ATV (with Roland module) switched to Ef Note switched back to Roland... honestly, at this point, I using my acoustic drums almost exclusively... take it for what its worth..

So you're saying the TD50 had the same problem that the Alesis DM10. I've never had Cross talk on my PD12 which is my snare. You must not know how to configure triggers then .

I do too (recommend it) try the Reality pack …and for that price is not even a question. You spend more in one dinner than that pack. Oh and the rack took me 5 min to assemble but I have been drumming and assembling drum related things since the late 80s. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpLEiJpmnq2Cra8. The video shows my current kit with a Gibraltar rack

Personally, I like the TD20 rack better. The TD50 rack is too compact and not as stable. The TD20 rack has longer tubes, is more adjustable (2 back leg heights are adjustable) and more stable. The single crossbar on the TD50 rack allows for bigger bass drums, but it also allows for the two front legs to angle out instead of being perpendicular to the floor. It's fine once it's all adjusted, but makes setup more of a pain to make sure those legs are straight. The TD20 rack has dual crossbar which avoids this issue, but at the cost of less bass drum clearance for a VAD style kick. Mostly though I hate being maxed out on space due to the shorter tubes. The clamps and cymbal stands are better on the 50 though. The 50x stock sounds are MUCH better than the 50, I held out on purchasing a 50 until the 50x was available because I couldn't justify the kit sounds and weak instrument list. At least Roland included a free year for Cloud, with some good kits released there... but has given no incentive to pay for that service as the kit releases have stopped. They tend to abandon their kit support as soon as something else is released.... another reason their price gouging doesn't feel justified.

I had the td 50. And sent it back I still have a td 30 I love more .If you can't tweeek the brain on your own your gonna have problems.With that being said I upgraded to The pearl mimic on the same set you have minus the module and I have never Been more happy .Even the presets blow away any Roland stuff
@lucyferina
@lucyferina 7 ай бұрын
Going to the mimic is NOT upgrading keep your Roland module and get Steven Slate Drums and you have both… remember the mimic doesn’t support positional sensing inaceptable for a module of that price. Also Roland digital pads won’t work with it another reason it is not an upgrade.

@@lucyferina so you tried the mimic eh? or are you just mimicking what you have heard ? Because i made enough videos of it working awesome especially recording with it with my band ,THEY all agree it sounded better than my td 30 which i still prefer over the digital td 50 which i already owned ,I get it man. to each his own but digital does not mean better ,it just means digital

Roland is now selling after-market kits, new money market for them, so they leave stock kits more to be desired.

it takes me about 10 min to assemble my rack, but then again I have been assembling drums and racks since 1980... This is NOT the Roland rack, this is a Gibraltar rack that I bought for $250. I have the TD27 and the TD11 powering a 5 tom 8 cymbal kit. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2mlmGmNrrmmjrs
