It's so secret magic it looks like one of Isaac Asimov's greatest Science Fiction Crime Novels. The Naked Sun, where no one ever saw each other. I betcha Elon Musk was involved in it too. For the record, that's a JOKE.

The way I achieve it is be listening to the track and visualizing the lead melody and singing before I play it. Recording and vocalizing my guitar parts. Then I go back and learn what I though the spirit, vocalized. Get me???? But I would love to be able to just go from my fingers to the get fiddle. In the green one the peddles remind me of the sperm of?? Oh yeah, slightly scalloped. Whith full sustain functionality. Always in my prayers brother. Very very nice. 👍 🙏💯

I once did a masterclass with Vai in Tilburg NL. And it changed my guitar playing forever. The economy of motion and the economy picking was such AHA moment. It took me a good 6 months to incorporate it and it gotten very frustrating to the point knalde couldn’t play my old style anymore. So I basically sucked at everything. That’s when I stopped the hours and hours of practice sessions and decided to relearn my own style. That I picked up quickly again, luckily. And I noticed at a certain moment that it sounds slightly different. Less aggressive and things went easier. And I realized I was economy picking and subconsciously changing starting on up or down stroke. That I had practiced for hours and hours, in what I thought was in vane. Suddenly it clicked and it was there.

I've searched extensively and the closest thing I found to the "Trem setter's" Steve was referring to (which I'm pretty sure is EXACTLY what's in Steves PIA) is the Göldo Back Box ( www.thomann.de/gb/goeldo_backbox.htm ) it's pretty much a permanent modification to the instrument but based on what I've seen, read and heard about them is completely worth it.

Steve, you recently said that Roy Marchbank was the fastest guitar player you have ever seen. Have you seen him play Paganini and more recently Shawn Lanes solos? His own compositions are astounding too. He also speaks of total relaxation in playing, so in agreement with yourself. You’re both incredible guitarists and great human beings pushing the boundaries of the guitar! Thank you for acknowledging Roy’s virtuosity. It takes a true virtuoso to have the grace and goodness to recognise another. Would love to see you play together.

Steve, What’s really amazing about this is that you can be so completely present in the moment instinctually while playing , but then be ruthlessly analytical about what u have done after the performance is done . As a performer , it’s reassuring to me to learn that the inner dialogue you experience regarding your music is at least somewhat similar to what I’m feeling when I enter the creative space. I think we all appreciate your transparency and honesty in these sessions.

Just a wealth of knowledge, grace and talent. WHEN SOMEONE CONTINUES TO IMPROVE THEIR GIFT AND MIND FOREVER IS SO RARE. IMHO That is Steve Vai, a modern day Leonardo de Vinci. I started playing when I was 10 in 1972. I have developed some nerve damage from not stopping when there is pain or blood. That was invaluable info you shared with us in the (Knappsack) episode..; They say I will need the same surgery, but when I warm up for 2 hours the feeling returns to all the fingers in my left hand. sorry I just want to remind younger immortal musicians that you can injure yourself without proper hand care and taking breaks when they are practicing those painful ballerina like finger stretches with bends. Do you think someone could please try to ballpark how much a sustainer would cost to have put in by Ibanez as a custom order or what it might run out here in the cold streets of hit or miss USA? Thank you everyone!

Steve, good day. I suggest friction less pots for the volume pot so its easier to do bow like effects and of course its a quick way to kill the noise when the guitar is not required. And, if you are not doing anything with the tone knob, which I do not hear you much discussing about, I suggest a signal kill switch like the red touch button on another famous signature model....

Steve! a PIA with the sustainiac, shallow scallops, and trem setter would be a total gamechanger; a true signature guitar! I'd buy that in a heartbeat!

This seems like babble but it is really an insight into a very creative artistic mind. I am so very privileged to have this access to Mr. Steve Vai through KZbin. Thank you.

True Temperament, scalloped under the high stings, and a slight multiscale like the Strandbergs, titanium rods, 6105 stainless frets, fret edge binding and green abalone/luminlay tree of life on a brazilian/black limba neck. That I would buy, after selling my car

I haven't laughed so hard in such a long time. Thanks for sharing something so intimate, just makes you more human. And you are funny. lol Oh, I have a couple of Jems from the 80's that I have owned as a teen. Anxious to try the Pia.

Wanted a separate post. Growing up as a teen in the 80's was both a blessing and curse. I'm not a full time musician but have always struggled with my 'sound' or voice. 80's rock was my main influence, but there were so many other styles that influenced me as well. I always joke that I need I music therapist as when I sit down to write something my mind just goes in different directions. So my music sounds well...confusing. However, I have found if I write to say a video, it helps me focus on a style. Anyhow, the insights on all these shows are appreciated.

1:04:53 Honestly the handle is very practical, it feels nice too, I prefer holding by its Handel when handling the guitar. 😊

Not only are you my all time favorite guitarists, but what makes me admire you even more is what a humble, caring, down to Earth person you are.I've only KINDA met you once when you played "Clicks" in Tyler,Texas where you actually let me work your whammy for a few seconds right during your performance and that made my night, week, month and year. We do have a few friends/aquaintenances in common. I just want to say thank you for everything you do and share with us. I have your number in my phone and have for a while and have never given it to ANYONE as it was a promise I've kept from a mutual friend. Trust me when I say it's been so hard to never call you or text you,but I don't feel I have that right or privilege, but just knowing I have it makes me feel like a million dollars. I'm almost 62 years old and still play in my 3 piece band every weekend and have followed your career since Zappa and will always be a fan till I am in the next spiritual plane. Thank you again for the inspiration, the words of wisdom and the best guitar playing,in every aspect. You are the true GOAT. Much love, honor and respect Sir 🎶💜🎶 ~DOG~ of the East Texas band Black Ice

couldnt agree more with the "be careful about the dark feeling in songs' part. I had a hard time some years ago that squeezed out some I feel beautiful chord progressions. but If I ever finish making that song something nasty will have to drive me back to that place. its an inquisitive and somber feeling mixed with heartbreak and pain. on an acoustic. not crazy angry playing, nothing fast, just the wonder of the pain, like hovering over an abyss and admiring the beauty of the mess. I hope im never again in the place where I can finish it. but it takes me back if i let it. thanks for putting it succinctly for everyone, "guarding the heart" intentionally is a big idea and shouldn't be wandered into unintentionally
