My website has MOVED! Here is the new address: steve-wiest.com/ See Y'all there! :)
On 8/14/13 Daniel Pardo of The Eclectic Electric Band and myself went to hear Chicago in North Texas. Via the beneficence of my dear friend Jimmy Pankow (legendary trombonist and composer with the super-group Chicago), we got VIP treatment and went back stage to film the results. My new project "Concerto for Folded Space" will be featuring myself with Jimmy, Bob Mintzer, Arlington Jones and The Eclectic Electric Band: Stockton Helbing: drums, Daniel Pardo: flutes, Braylon Lacy: bass, Ryan Davidson: guitar and Noel Johnston: guitar. I hope that you will stop by the ArtistShare® page and sign up for a participation level to take part in this great adventure with me!

What a joy you both are. I became a trombonist because of Jimmy. Caught Steve playing with Maynard. Hung out with Al Gray, and played a gig with Jimmy Pugh. I have been in trombone heaven, and this video is proof, God puts the trombone disciples together.

Hi Larry. Wow! That’s a rarefied list to be included in. Thanks man! I’m with you in that King James has been and always will be a catalyst in my trombone playing. When I first heard his solo on “Beginnings” it was like being hit in the heart by a bolt of lightening! And he is playing better than ever these days! What an inspiration. Thanks again for the kind words my friend!👍🏻😎

Love these guys. My older sister used to play their albums and I was instantly hooked. Walt is just a great man and always acts like he's living the dream although sadly I haven't seen him recently on tour and hope he's doing well.Jimmy what could ever be said that hasn't been.World class composer and songwriter and finally the world has united and will finally be in the Rock and roll hall of fame. Long overdue honor

+TimfromChicago I agree 100% my friend! The fans have spoken and voted Chicago onto the ballot. I worry about those who will now vote and have the final say-so...but here's hoping they see the truth and put our boys into the Hall where they belong! Be sure to check out the band on tour...they sound GREAT. Maybe the best they've EVER sounded. Jimmy is KILLING it every night. As for Walt, he is indeed experiencing serious health issues and can't go out very often. As I understand it, he makes the dates that aren't hot, temperature-wise, due to the heart meds he is on for a stint he had put in place. But he does still get out there as much as he can. What a classy and wonderful guy he is! His sub, Ray Herrmann is a great friend of mine and is doing a wonderful job. Ray is originally from the Chicago area, so he is right at home with the guys.

Thanks for posting, Steve. Panko's a monster's monster. It was a gas watching him check out your score--which I can't wait to hear. Also was a gas to hear Walt in the backround playing the flute part from Peter and the Wolf.

My pleasure pankfan60! The Pank is a monster's monster indeed. You caught Walt playing in the background as well :) The whole thing was a COMPLETE thrill for me. Jimmy and I will be recording the track he was checking out in this video (The "Nuthouse" piece) as well as another chart. Both will be included on the release "Concerto for Folded Space" in July. How wonderful! He is indeed THE MAN! It is always a pleasure to hang with him and of course, to hear him and the band in person. What a show, and what a sound! Have fun at the Wolf Trap gig, and if you see Saint James, give him a big hug for me! :)

Frank wagner Thanks my friend! What an incredible joy to hang out with those guys. It is like spending time with the Beatles!! And it was a total thrill and a hoot to have King James on my album. WOWZA! Yeah, it was pretty cool to hear him talking about JJ and style in general, and to get it on video!

Any advice on a veteran musician who has gone broke? I've played all over the world, and never really got a "base", and would have no problem doing it all online, although I miss real jamming.

OK, Im sure Jimmy has better things to do than read this, but if you do, Musical Genius. Yes You! You are reading those charts like some one who reads the wall street journal. I am sure in 400 years people will listen to Carnegie Hall will say its like the Brandenburg Concerto... their time. I feel that way right now. Wow, thank you brother. Love you forever, Nick

Kim Runic: I know right?! It was very difficult for me to pretend that I didn't hear Walt playing that :) Must.....retain........the ILLUSION.......of ............hippness..... But of course, this begs the bigger question: after almost 50 years of playing that tune...is he shedding or just using it to warm up? Methinks the latter :)
