The occasions in which he is hard on the women are exceptionally circumstantial and almost undoubtedly involves a child/children. In any other situation and especially in any kind of case wherein the man is being abused by the woman he is incredibly dismissive of the man's claims (to the point where I am convinced that he doesn't believe that it is possible, and having witnessed my brother have to go through a physically abusive relationship despite being a musclebound macho man much like Steve is, it's very frustrating to witness) and even mocks the victim on occasion. But even aside from that, if the situation doesn't involve kids being mistreated by the mother, you had best be certain that he's not going to be in anyway as "hard" on them as he would a man. Ok Steve, I got to disagree with the DNA test. You make it sound like taking your kid for a DNA test without telling the mother is a bad thing. It's just a DNA test to see it's his child. Telling her about it would most likely make unnecessary problems just because he just wants to make sure. I mean there are stories where the man thinks it's their child for 20+ years and then finds out it's not his. If you are scared that might happen then get a DNA test to make sure and don't tell your wife about it to avoid any sort of problems.

If they share bills, there absolutely should be a discussion. DNA tests are expensive. As he said though, it can be a sign of distrust to not discuss it. Permission no, discussion beforehand, yes. But that should happen before signing a legal document- the birth certificate. If you signed it, you are responsible for the child even if you later find out it's not yours. The papers com with a pamphlet stating that even if you are not the biological dad, if you sign it, you are legally agreeing to take care of the child as if you are. So you break up, you are legally responsible for child support, but also still have rights for visitations.
