On August 27, 1990, Stevie Ray died in the early morning hours when his helicopter crashed into a hill in heavy fog in East Troy, Wisconsin. He had planned on driving, but knew he'd get home faster by chopper. So Eric Clapton told him to take his helicopter. Only a few minutes after taking off, a loud explosion was seen on the hillside of the Alpine Valley Resort where he, Clapton, Buddy Guy and Vaughan's older brother Jimmie had just finished playing. His agent, Bobby Brooks, and some of his crew also died in the crash. There was a convoy of helicopters, about five of them, that had to maneuver through very thick fog only about 100 feet off the ground. Unfortunately, Stevie's chopper was the one that didn't lift high enough to clear the hill through the fog. Ironically, he was on Clapton's helicopter. Eric told Stevie to take his and he'd wait for another one. That's why it was initially reported at first that both Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton were killed together that morning...

Aside from SRV being a Master at his craft, the one thing that stands out about him is he was an extremely humble man who always was a student of the guitar. He always gave props to all the ones he learned from the King brothers and his idol Jimmie Hendrix to name a couple. He has so much for you to react to. I’ll give you one of my favorites….. please react to “Mary Had A Little Lamb live on Austin Texas”. Yes sir he did do a song to the kid’s nursery rhyme and he kills it!!!

I play classical guitar. The fingers get a kind of muscle memory. He probably mutes some strings when he comes down hard and only the fretted strings sound. But SRV is something else. Check out some classical guitarists, all the fingers picking strings with accuracy, super fast too. So fast they sound like 2 guitars. Hey friend! You referenced him as a rock God & his style of play as rock - but also mentioned it sounds like Blues. THAT'S where you're correct. Stevie is one of the best blues guitar players ever. THE BEST in my opinion. He heard Al King & BB King play & they were "the best" at the time. They were Stevie's idols & he wanted so much to play like them. He spent years traveling from band to band & town to town honing his craft as a Blues player. He taught himself to plays, you know. When Al & B.B. both eventually accepted SRV as their peer, performed with him, and even said SRV is indeed THE greatest Blues guitarist ever it was his dream come true. They were blown away he plays with 0.13 guitar strings which no one does. They are VERY VERY thick. His fingers used to bleed & he'd just take some glue and put his skin back on. Stevie was a very humble man though. When asked he freely says this person is better or that person is better - but never himself. He was happy just to be in their presence. So yes, always equate SRV with Blues. -- Yes, "Voo Doo Child" is Jimi's rock song, and SRV's song for example Pride & Joy has elements of Rock- which he could & did play - but always associate SRV with Blues. Rock guitar gods would be: 🔥Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin - Check out Stairway to Heaven Live 🔥Eddie Van Halen of Van Halen - check out his solo called "Eruption" 🔥David Gilmour of Pink Floyd - check out "Comfortably Numb" at Pulse. 🔥Eric Clapton - can't think of a solo but "Cocaine" has a nasty riff!! 🔥Alex Lifeson of Rush - check out "YYZ" Live in Rio Notables are Brian May of Queen, Peter Frampton "Do You Feel Like I Do", Angus Young of AC/DC, & Slash of Guns & Roses "Novemeber Rain.

New subscriber here. He did kill "Voodoo Chile" but that's a Jimi Hendrix song - Jimi was one of Stevie's idols. And Jimi.. well, if'n you don't know Jimi you got to know Jimi. Anyway, I haven't read any comments and I'm sure tons of people have already mentioned what I said. But Stevie is all blues.. it's dirty nasty in your face blues... that's what the blues is, man.. all emotion.. and you see that oozing from Stevie. That entire Macombo show is sick. That encore song of his is fire... he goes off stage and probably does a few lines of coke and comes back to play "Lenny" -- that's another one to react to if you haven't already. And look into Jimi Hendrix "Machine Gun" live. Considered one of the greatest solo's of all time.

Another crazy fact about Stevie is he played 13s on his guitar. Most people like Eric Clapton, jimmy page, Jimi Hendrix etc all played with 9s or 10s. Stevie did 13s! This is why he had to super glue his finger tips on. Them strings would make his hand bleed. You can actually see his fingers bleeding in some live performances if you look close.
@dm53192 жыл бұрын
Yup - heavy blues genes. Look for stuff with him and Albert King. I always loved how he uses the whole guitar, chords and single notes, fast and slow - and he never gets "lost" - always seems to land on his musical feet when he comes to the final bars of a solo or a chorus. And you are right: the vocals are as much about feeling as they are being in tune.

SRV and the guys in his band Double Trouble really had a blast doing "Love Struck Baby"/"Rude Mood" in 1987 at Daytona Beach, FL. The band was so tight... the bass player Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton were awesome keeping up with Stevie Ray (which isn't easy in this set). Reese Wyans, SRV's man on the keys, is on fire. And Stevie Ray is positively joyful... If you react to it, or even just watch it on your own, you'll see what I mean!: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWWsfJeaethortU

SRV, yes, seemingly one with his guitar......transported somewhere else. He had several idols, Jimi Hendrix was one, Albert King was another. Pull up SRV and Albert King In Session "Born Under a Bad Sign". You clearly can see the homage SRV pays to Albert King which is more than justified. SRV left us way, way too early. Just like Duane Allman did, Janis Joplin, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, Amy Winehouse, Otis Redding, Bob Marley, Jim Morrison, Marvin Gaye, Elvis Presley to name a few. So sad.
