NefariousPorpoise I saw an interview with his band. They said Stevie was hammered all night and was passed out. They woke him up minutes before the show and he played the whole concert to perfection like there was nothing wrong. It’s why he was sweating even more than usual. Dude was a beast!

@@RMLtiger Except that this was filmed in 1989, only a year before his death, when he was stone cold sober. Eric Clapton was with him on that final stage, and said they SRV had never payed better in his life than after he went through recovery. He and all the other blues legends were all huge fans of each other - there was never any real 'rivalry' between them, as they all had/have very different styles. The rest all agreed that SRV was the best of them, hands down, and they were just 'fighting' for second place..... Clapton once said that he could only watch SRV do about two sings before he'd want to throw his own guitar in the corner and give up. To my knowledge, no other major guitar player has ever tried to replicate SRV's signature move of slinging that axe around and playing it behind his back, and he made it look EASY (it's definitely NOT!!!) If you watch his videos, most of the time he's not even looking at his left hand, and half the time has his eyes closed - he didn't just 'play' his guitar; he became ONE with it.

@@Linkacide Sure, but if it was due to pain mainly, he would perhaps not make a similar grin even when not bending. (I do it too, using the pitch wheel or otherwise creating and resolving dissonanses on my synthesizers.) My take is still that it's more about the tension in the music than in the strings. :)

Brooooo this is his most badass song, I know Jimi wrote it but Stevie killed it! If you get a chance to react to another Stevie Rae Vaughn song I suggest “Little Wing” (live at el mocambo) it’s the opposite of this, it being his most melodic sweetest sounding song! Again Jimi wrote it, but Stevies version made me quit piano after 9 years and pick up a guitar 👍🏻🤟🏻 I love him like a hero, and want to one day play like him for other people.

RnB guitarist have been doing that since the 40s. SRV is the Elvis Presley of Blues. No one can say that he could not play but it's much easier to copy what has already been done then to do something originally. He had zero originality just a great guitar player That's it.....

@@FramrodLiggins , he copied just as he should have. Those guys were the masters of that style, and he absolutely loved the music. I happen to be a big fan of his spin on what the masters did. @@garygraham2513 ... Popular songs????? I could ask 100 people at the park to name one Stevie Ray Vaughan song and half of them are going to say Voodoo Chile or Little Wing....IF they even know who he is. His appeal was strictly to the Blues/Rock audience. His songs were bog standard stuff we've all head before. Maybe he tacked on a great Solo but the songs were average...At Best. @@narkhotix you need to find poetry in your description of that moment. The string breaks, the guitar becomes embarrassed, it can't believe what has happened, it quietly says sorry and still plays all the right notes. Vaughn, like dawn Stevie Ray Vaughan, Austin City Limits, live 81 or 83, Voodoo Child cover the. Greatest blues guitarist and singer, ever! This is a Hendrix cover. Bowie had him play on his Let's dance , album. Then asked him to join his band. SRV turned him down!!😮😮 Greatest guitarist ever!! Died young, leaving the Montreux Jazz Festival, in a terrible helicopter crash. RIP to SRV. U should watch all his Austin City Limits, concerts! Ironically, first time he went to Montreaux, he was booed mercilessly, they felt he wasn't Jazz enough! When he went back in 95, he was treated as the reigning god of the show! And then he died...if u watch just one more of his vids, it should be from this show, Texas Flood! His look, blues voice, guitar ability, showmanship... God purpose built this man to play the Blues! There's been a lot of great guitarists , but combined with his voice, look, presence, voice, showmanship and ability , there's only him.

Hendrix was the greatest - the innovator who broke it wide open about what electric guitar can do. Stevie Ray Vaughan went through the door and brought it to the next level of intensity. In this rendition SRV pays homage to Jimi and puts his own signature on it. Their both gone from this world but the reverberations of their playing is still felt today.
