Bruce once explained this in an interview; in the early days Bruce was in charge of the money the band would make. So on pay day the other band members would approach him and say Boss where's my dough? The name stuck.

@Sandler Cruise in the early days when they would play bars and small venues, after they played Bruce would go to find the person in charge to make sure they got paid. One of Steve's nicknames is Miami Steve because he went down to Miami and came back to Jersey and wore tropical shirts.

I grew up idolizing Bruce. He was my inspiration for picking up the guitar. Never liked his socialist politics though, but I was willing to over look that until I heard a recent interview with him and his racist buddy, Obama. All you white Springsteen fans should be pretty p.o'd at him. He sat there and agreed with Obama when Obama said that all Bruce's white fans would have called Clarence the "N" word if they saw him in a bar as just a black man and not as Clarence. Thanks for defending your fanbase Bruce, I really appreciate that (yes, dripping sarcasm). Sure, you may have some racists fans out there, but I guarantee you most of your white fans would not have called Clarence or any black man the "N" word. Your friend Obama proved once again that he is the big racist who has divided our country and is even holding the current morons puppet strings in destroying, what once was, our great country! That's right, Bruce, the country that gave you all the opportunity in the world to be who you became. I wonder if you would have been able to do that living in North Korea, China, or even the Soviet Union!

EHI Perfectly put my friend. I commented on this just before reading your post. It was disgraceful, & cowardly, of Bruce to agree like that with the bigot Obama. Bruce has always been a Lefty though but it wasn't until he endorsed John Kerry that he revealed his looney, & racist, Leftist beliefs.

Socialist countries are amongst the best countries to live in, and aint built on racism. Jeez you bat blind republicans who havent been outside Americas dysfunctional society. America would be a human country for EVERYBODY, not just the rich people if you pulled your heads ouf of your a**es. The crazy part is that a huge part of those voting republican is the ones that would benefit the most of living in a socialist society, but they are so afraid of being overtaken by immigrants(guess what, you are immigrants yourself) that they rather live in poverty. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWG7hGmhmpZ1Z6s

A agree and have the parallel experience you described. No harder worker than Bruce, no better writer and musician. He deserves all the credit for making his dream come true. No…most white people/fans would NOT have referred to Clarence as the “N”word. All that said….his political views traps everyone “like” himself behind without the same chance. The policies he endorses have the lower and middle tiers of this country getting crushed by inflation. They’re not getting anything from 6 trillion in fake spending. That money is stolen. Less than 10% gets to the people. Does Bruce Springsteen know this? A child can see it.

Holy shit, you hit a home run with this post! I had the same reaction when I heard Obama’s comments about white audiences. Bruce made his Billion off of those wonderful white fans and did not defend them. This is an example of the rewriting history that is intentionally happening.

Bruce Springsteen's publicist deserves a Grammy. For those of you who don't or can't remember, the first anyone ever heard of Springsteen was when he appeared on the cover of Time Magazine in about 1975. Whoever the publicist is, he or she has been hyping the very medicore talented Mr Springsteen ever since.

no hype is needed this far into a 50 year career. No publicist has to push anything for him to sell out arenas at his age, playing 3.5 hours with no breaks...he knows he doesn't have the best voice or best guitar but his showmanship, his power on stage..... and, he was on the cover of Newsweek the very same week at Time in 1975

From 1974 till 1982 I provided Bruce Springsteen and Steven Van Zandt with lyrics. Bruce received a total of 37 songs. My standing agreement with Bruce was that he would take the songs and he would pay me if he used them depending on how good they were. They have made no effort to pay for the lyrics. Several of the songs were major hits. I was 15 in 1974 when I met Bruce and I was with them on my 16th birthday. Steven came by my mother's house in 1982 and picked up the lyrics for what would be on the album Born In The USA. My mother still remembers Steven. He met both my sisters. The lyrics to the song "My Hometown" were written by myself and my older sister Carla Heine. The song was inspired by a play by Thornton Wilder entitled "OurTown" I was too young and Bruce took unfair advantage of me. Maybe now with technology the truth will come out.

@@christopherallen9580 My uncle Peter Heine was director of advertising for Billboard Magazine from 1965 to about 1978. My aunt Elyse Kraft was director of marketing and research for Billboard Magazine in New York 1965. I met David Giffin in 1971. I met Paul McCartney in 1972. In 1974 I met Elton John at the Performing Artist of the Year Awards. By the time I was 15 I'd already met Michael Jackson. I had attended radio programming conferences at the Century Plaza Hotel. At the age of 13 I had access to a 16 track Ampex recorder. At 15 I read Rubenstein's Modern Recording techniques. I got to hang out with Bob Johnston and Roy Buchanan. When I met Bruce he was small potatoes. I never thought that I really got around. I met Carlos Santana at the age of 10 through my father Ed Heine and Frank Warber who owned Trident Records and produced the Kingston Trio. My father designed Frank's recording studio and the Trident Restaurant. I don't think it's that I got around I think it's a circumstance of birth, who you know and what you're involved with. Phil Salisbury the guy we purchased the 16-track from he went on to become the engineer for Foreigner. If you're around the equipment the people that are in the industry flock to the equipment. I ended up in Biochemistry and got published for my work with an enzyme. Life happens to you but a lot of it has to do with opportunity and access. Take care and be well.

You've changed your tune from the comment up above where it's all about 'wanting us to die as brothers'...you sound like you have contacts..or else like to namedrop a lot..why not get all the 'rabid lawyers' you have on call to get involved..you don't have to sue, but you have more chance of connecting with him that way rather than a KZbin comment section...your tone has changed a lot since the last comments. You talked about Bruce having a contract, right? So in one of the rare occasions he was stuck for songs (rarely ever was) why wouldn't they do what other managed acts do and went to the literal HUNDREDS of writers that worked 9-5 in the Brill building (or something close to it) you mentioned "my hometown" but alluded to more..do you mind me asking why? Considering he even gave away number one hits to other artists, its strange he'd treat you in this way....he wrote so many that he could give them away..he's obsessed with lyrics..you also mentioned you've "blocked him out" since but still went to his shows...why? (I'm alluding to your earlier comments too) you also stated you just want 'walking around money' you live in the most litigious country in the world and its never even come up? Have you sold any more songs to artists?
