I think the reference was to the hardships of black people in this country throughout its history. That's where the blues were born. I'm white, but can still relate, having been poor and growing up in the projects. Rap is mostly angry 😡 and I get why, but songs about keeping your head up and doing the best you can is why you can "feel" these songs. I grew up on the blues, as well as many other genras. I don't think anyone could listen to this and not feel inspired!
@memyself79874 жыл бұрын
@Geoffrey Lane The blues speak the truth in a way that you feel deep in your bones. You don't have to be black to get it, poor folks has had to cope and get past stereotypes too. However, it is mostly black musicians that can pull you into blues and soul music that helps you to understand that you're not alone in your struggles. You don't have to degrade women and brag about bling etc., to prove you matter. Just sing from the ❤️!!

Well, it don't get much better than this! Stevie's gritty funk about the tragedy of alienated urban life, given a most gritty, funky interpretation by the legend of soul, Ray Charles. Joined in duet by,,,,,, Mr Wonder himself. These guys breathe virtuosity, total mastery of their overlapping, but unique idioms. And here they are together, complimenting and acting as foils for each other. Outstanding music, sharp social commentary, solid funk armed with piercing poetry, Ray's rough, throaty grunts and growls contrasting with Stevie's ringing head tones. A musical extravagance.

@user-zw7oe4jv3j7 жыл бұрын
Both true. But I'd say changing the quality of the music is easier, because the problem is there's too many distractions nowadays. Getting rid of distractions is something an individual can do on his own. The music execs is a bigger problem, as it takes more than one to solve it. As Zappa said in the 80s(!), the execs in charge up until the 70s had an attitude of "I don't know what the kids listen to, sign 'em, if it works it works!", while from then up to today the execs feel much too hip, they think they know exactly what's good(plus they want predictability - don't forget record labels are owned by Wall St)
