One of the greatest love songs ever. The lyrics seem so simple but it is so complex and layered. He takes you on a journey through each month of the year, highlighting special events that may lead someone to call their loved one to let them know they're loved. Starting at New Years Day and ending at Christmas. He moves effortlessly and beautifully through the changing seasons of the year and pulls it all together with a chorus that speaks about calling a special someone on an ordinary day to simply say "I love you" It starts with 2 verses taking you through the first 6 months of the year, then the chorus, followed by another 2 verses taking you through the remaining 6 months, then the chorus x2 and outro ending in a wonderful crescendo. And then there's the fact that he played every instrument on the track and, of course, added his signature vocals and then mixed everything to produce an absolute masterpiece of a love ballad. The Wonder of Stevie! 🙌

This is one of my favorite love songs ever because it is for anyone you love… a spouse / partner, child / grandchild, parent, close friend… anyone. It really meant so much when I was in the military and couldn’t be near my friends and family, especially when we made phone calls to each other. Those weren’t to often since they were pretty expensive back in the late 80’s. Sometimes they would “just call to say I love you!” ❤️
