@@JoseRodriguez-ub9ol the doolset Bangtan translations website, as well as the DKDKTV KZbin channel, have great translations that help you understand all of the nuances. I wouldn’t actually say things are lost in translation if you are willing to use those resources. Most official BTS videos have good lyric translations in the subtitles now, which helps. The two resources above will actually explain nuances, which gets you an entirely new level of understanding.

Like others have said DKDKTV explanation is the way to go with this one. RM for example uses ddaeng in like seven different ways in his verse. The best way I can describe it is like if an English rapper used the word ring to refer to the sound like ring of a bell (but not just one, like store bell, school bell, phone bell), a boxing ring, jewelry, wringing your hands or wringing a neck, or ringing in your ears, and then even adds in a reference to like ring around the rosie. It’s onomatopoeia and clever word play with great flow and external and internal rhyming.

You might watch "Strange" by Agust D ft RM or "Joke" by RM or "Lie" by Jimin or "Baepsae" by BTS or "Stigma" by V or "Daydream" by Jhope or "Begin" by Jungkook or "Awake" by Jin... This group is known by fans for their lyricism and wordplay and that's largely due to RM. Ddaeng is a huge one but there's so much more. DKDKTV provides an extensive series of "Explained By a Korean" because it's not that simple. What you have to understand is that the Korean language is near impossible to translate to appease a western mind... summation: unless you have some understanding of their culture and how it differs tremendously from the west, you will struggle. There's something to be had in that way. Wale has spoken to RMs genius in this way after their collab. BTS's ARMY love and support them because of their artistry and musical output as well as their continued ability to share themselves with us (healthily). We, BY THE MILLIONS, are present because of this fact. There's so much to unpack but dissonance is borne from lack of insight (no hate here). The desire to understand without biases, in and of itself, is a mental exercise but well worth the effort.. I don't think that's anyone fault, ya know? We only understand what we know and it takes internal work to progress. That's why BTS is known to transcends language and cultural barriers. It's not basic nor is it what it seems at face value. Once we learn to open our minds and take that leap do we realize exactly how much we are missing.

Their play on the hands (1-8, 1-3, 3-8) and the multiple uses of Ddaeng (double D means just say it hard instead of soft, D instead of somewhere between d and t) would be like talking about royal flush, four of a kind, straight when your team are royalty, flushing enemies down the toilet, an unmatched foursome, and straight while the opps are not. It's that complex and nuanced.

Thanks for reacting and being open minded and respectful. If you've not seen RM's Joke, that's weld worth it for the flows. Outro tear is a fan fav, especially their live performance of it. There's a behind the scenes video of these three working on the production of the song.

Hello, I stumbled upon your video upon browsing my KZbin feed and really enjoyed the video. Thank you for giving BTS' music a chance as you explore music (it appears you focus mainly on hip hop) from around the world. I thought I would share a little background on Kpop and recommend a BTS' song that I think you may like. Kpop actually refers to the Kpop industry as a whole. This includes everything from music production to choreography, styling and video production. It is not a genre of music like the Western world likes to make it out to be, however BTS really does not care what you refer to their music as. They are simply into making music and telling their story as young persons. BTS spoke about Kpop in great detail in their interview at the Grammy museum a few years back. You can watch it at some point if you are interested to get more clarity on what I explained. You would have probably notice that "K-POP" is influenced by the various genres of music in the US, however the lyrics are just in Korean. Hence classifications of k- POP, k - HIP-HOP, k- RnB etc. It is better to look at it is as Pop Music in the Korean language, Hip Hop music in the Korean language etc. as it has elements of these genres in the songs. So this and Daechitwa, is just an example of Hip Hop with a Korean twist. The cadence and technique which you all noticed is there. You would just have to take time to understand the Korean references, since its Hip-Hop, but like Korean. Given that you appear to be a Hip Hop Head, I would recommend listening to Hip Hop Phile/Hip Hop Lover by BTS to understand how they became connected to Hip Hop. The rap line takes the lead and explain their individual journey with the culture that I found super interesting. In fact, RM (Rap Monster) was frozen solid when he met NAS in 2020. He literally could not talk to him properly face to face. But all in all, the song itself really shows how music can transcends boundaries and the culture is truly a part of who they are.

Yeah man, their wordplay and references are crazy but it’s so hard to get without watching an explanation video, especially this one. There are so many different meanings in this song. RM especially is a lyrical genius. You should check out Joke or Ugh.

Suga and RM they are great composers 👌 it's all a play on words. Ddaeng has different meanings during the song, it refers to a Korean card game, where the numbers 13,18 is the best combination . They make many references to their culture. It is directed at his haters and other rapers who looked down on them. Could you react to Ugh! , Outro: Tear, Forever rain and cypher 1,3 and 4 ?? 💜

ddaeng meaning 1. wrong 2. bell sound 3. korean gamble word - basicly "1 ddaeng" means "1 pair" 4. luck, lucky things 5. hide and seek word - When you say "freeze" before you get caught by a tagger, you can survive by a tagger, but you can't move until other hiding people tag you. When other people tag people in "freeze", they shout "ddaeng". 6. etc.... (too much meaning) but In this song, I think it's used in the five meanings above. I am sorry that I am not good at English because I am Korean. There can be mistakes in interpretation.

The Rap line all have mixtapes/Solos. Some that have a little more flavor would be: Rm: Joke (it’s his fastest rap) and Change feat Wale. I’d say watch the MV for both then watch the Lyric video. The MVs don’t have English subs but the MV are pretty descriptive to the song. Suga (aka AgustD): AgustD MV (fastest rap solo. He fastest period was Cypher pt 2 which you already heard) & Give It To Me. Both MVs do have English subs. JHope: airplane pt 1, Chicken Noodle Soup (fun fact: he got permission & paid royalties to Dj Webstar & YoungB.) & EGO. All have English subs as well. Ive seen your other BTS Rapline videos & I love it. I grew up listening to people like Eminem (who is one of the influences for them too) & tech9. I’ve always appreciated lyrics that have a meaning, as well as a good beat. A lot of rappers have said rap is a feeling not a skin color. That’s why ARMY appreciates your reviews. You see the song for the energy and not who sings it. BTS were heavily criticized in K-hip hop/k-rap for joining a group. RM and Suga(AgustD) were both underground rappers before signing with the company. JHope was a street dancer who learned to rap from RM & Suga. If you would like to know a little deeper about their song check out DKDKTV. They did a Ddaeng explained video & a Daechwita explained.

Ummmm...RM can rap 11 syllables per second. The translation to English might be a little off but please understand that BTS is THE NUMBER ONE BAND in the world for a reason.💜

Love your reactions, you dive deep into those lyrics and you bring out that meaning beyond the surface of the song. Are you open to other genres? Silent Planet is a metalcore band that put SERIOUS thought into their lyrics and it comes off as legit poetry. If you read the lyrics on their videos, the singer (Garrett) puts annotations on the lyrics like it's a research paper. People joke that their genre is poeticore or homeworkcore because there's so much meaning in their lyrics. I've found myself digging through the lyrics and annotations listed trying to figure out what his words really mean. I HIGHLY recommend 'Northern Fires' or 'Understanding Love as Loss'. Both songs have deep meaning and even have some hip-hop flow. I think either of those songs would be great for reaction videos, although every single of their songs is deep with philosophical meanings and poetic flow.

Ddaeng: a sound that describes a bell ringing, or when someone or something is wrong to view on.

I highly recommend you watch/react to Ddaeng explained by DKDKTV, they do what you do, but for BTS songs that are more complex. Ddaneg has like 7-8 meanings in this song, also multiple different Korean Refferences and doubles/triples Suga and RM used to be underground rappers before BTS, they're also the main writers for BTS

Ddaeng is Korean for the sound of a bell, sort of like English ding dong.. It can mean either wrong or right depending on context, similar to how bells can be used to indicate either success or failure in a game show. There's an excellent Ddaeng Explained by a Korean video on the DKDKTV channel. The lyrics have many Korean cultural references in them, so the video is a big help in understanding all the nuances.
