Given the rather thin schedule to Anaheim, I don't think it will ever be necessary to expand to more than one line in-out. Amtrak Cascades is a real solid service for Oregon. But if you're going to get diminishing returns in terms of improving passenger rail in the region as long as you're relying on the freight lines. New rights of way are going to be necessary at some point, and if you're going to have to acquire them, it makes more sense to just go ahead and design them with HSR in mind.
@davidjackson7281 Жыл бұрын
Why delay good incremental upgrades while continuing to wait for perfect? The Cascades needs more trainsets for three times the frequency and better on time performance, which they are slowly doing. A trip could be one hour faster by upgrading to 110 and 125 mph tracks, for instance. Faster electric can be installed and new ROWs acquired when the ridership can justify the improvement and funding has been secured. Just saying ...
@JohnDB9009 Жыл бұрын
@@davidjackson7281 oh I agree, upgrades like that would be nice. The problem is Amtrak doesn't own the lines the Cascades run on. What Brightline needs is grade separations. That can be achieved by elevating either the track or the road. I'm sure you did NOT mean continuous elevation of the track, which would be unnecessary. it doesnt need to be elevated, in europe where i live from the netherlands there isnt a lot of elevated rail tracks its unnecessary and not needed to make high speed rail. California needs to get rid of grade crossings, and the alignments needs to be straighter. But since the tracks are mostly shared with FEC florida east coast this is not likely to happen. I can call many high speed rail lines that are not elevated. some examples :, kuala lumpur line in indonesia 350 KM/H max speed, malaysia line 250 KM/H and NOT elevated, the woosh line, NOT elevated operation speed 350 KM/H. and there are much more examples where highspeed rail tracks are not elevated and can go 350 KM/H. just get rid of the grade crossings, and put ERTMS and ETCS signaling system on it, and there you go. But USA doesnt understand passenger rail, let alone high speed rail. It will take the USA decades to understand, and then built. I think for the USA brightline is a massive step forward.

Either the chargers are a lot faster than we thought, Brightline will upgrade their chargers to run faster, or that they possibly have plans to electrify their route in the near feature since electric trains can get up to 150mph comfortably. Regardless, I’m interested to see how they’ll pull this off

I'm not sure they will. This could be something as disappointing as someone getting it wrong and it being repeated. I don't think its an issue of power. They're currently using 8,000hp to move 4 passenger cars. It might be suspension or bogies or other components relating to the interface with the rails. The Charger is based on the Siemens Vectron, which has a 143mph top speed variant, so it would seem the company already has the technology to extend the top speed(granted that version is electric). By comparison, the terrain to get down further into the Willamette Valley is pretty tame. True you have to get through the rest of the Portland area, but once you're south of Lake Oswego or Oregon City it's mostly flat farmland all the way to Salem and Eugene. I'm not saying the added land acquisitions to get there won't be expensive. It's like comparing the central valley corridor of CAHSR to the cost of connecting Palmdale to LA. @@ronclark9724 If you pay for complete grade separation along the entire route, then you would be saving FAR FAR MORE time than just 30 minutes. And again, there'd be two service types - ICE and true UHSR. ICE is the one that goes much slower, as it stops at far more stations, while UHSR would only stop at the biggest stations. That would likely average a solid 200mph or better average speeds along the length of the line. So it would be more than worth it, again, specifically in the long term. And I, alongside a growing minority would be more than happy to pay a few hundred billion in tax money if that's what it would end up costing us. And it's far more worth the price than the $100M per tenth of a single mile that MAX Light Rail is. And that price tag is far higher now that it was for the construction of the Orange line due to market manipulation causing sky high inflation and other costs to just ream you. If that 7.8 miles cost $7.9B then, it would likely cost around $15B now for a normal LRT line, and if it is the extension of the Yellow Line across the river into 'Couver, then we're talking at least $20B. For perspective, would it really be worse to pay a few hundred Billion for a actual proper rail line, and a Ultra Highspeed line at that? The answer is obviously a no.
