In my personal opinion, the best drummer of all time. If you can't agree with that, the best hi-hat manipulator of all time! What a guy, such a rare combination of feel and style. Very few can come close to replicating his feel and hit placements. I don't doubt his time in the Middle East totally influenced his one-drop style beats, as well as reggae. "Wrapped Around My Finger" has the coolest Arabian feel because of Stew and I'm sure that influenced Andy's very Eastern style progressions and notes. His feet are ridiculous, listen to his bass drum placements on some tracks and it sounds impossible not to mention the left foot working that hat feel. Unreal player. I know there are so many that may be "technically" better, but I'm less interested in speed and robotics and math than someone who has a true voice. You KNOW it's Stewart when he's playing. I've always dreamed of playing guitar against Stewarts drums. I mean come on, no one I've ever played with can do "Walking On The Moon" properly and he never actually "hits" the freaking snare! It's all hi-hat, rimshot and bass drum interplay. So simple and ridiculously complicated.

What do you mean by one-drop style beats?
@honuman397 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. There's incredibly skilled drummers and feel oriented drummers. Then there's the rare guys where their personality blends with high skills with a lot of passion. There's never mistaking their playing. Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell, Bonham, George Hurley, Stewart Copeland and more. Hard to say these guys are better than Vinnie Calaiuta or JoJo Mayer or others at that level but Stewart's playing has an incredible feel.
@bcdrummer19626 жыл бұрын
I'll agree with this: he is a Master Musician whose drumming continues to have a major influence on music. I am not down with this "best of all time" stuff. How do you determine that Stewart Copeland is "better" than, say, Tony Williams, Elvin Jones or Buddy Rich ? Let alone "better" than, say, Ginger Baker, Charlie Watts, John Bonham, or Joey Jordison. But I think it's fine to say you LIKE Copelands drumming style the best. I'm a total fan myself!!!!

Uhh... You need to visit the SACRED GROVE... RIGHT HERE ON KZbin!!! Copeland is in the habit of inviting musicians to his home, getting them drunk and recording them trying to play! It does not withstand repeated viewing though... Sad. Copeland is pretty good playing drunk, but not Peart! IMHO
