For my money he _was_ #40 in about 2005/06, until he got complacent and let himself go. Sadly this did not go unnoticed by the supreme arbiters of comedy at Channel 4, who summarily relegated him by one. And quite right too.

6:40 "It's finished that bit, it's finished!!" I love that S.L hides so much more behind these little phrases. My guess is that, he builds his routines around themes that are continuous throughout his show, and there is a great skill in that, in leading the audience to their own conclusions before switching it up...here, he's remarking how 'observational' comedy just has throw away lines that are 'finished' as soon as they're spaffed out of the gob of the philandering coke heads.

Russell Brand has been drug free since his stand up career took off, but back in the day he used to do ridiculous shows when he was drugged up and start fights with the audience and get thrown out all the time.
